Not the Real Thing, But Close Enough
Hans won't get his orders until October due to the current budget problem in the Navy. So, no orders for another few weeks. Why they kept telling him that the orders "would be there by the end of the week" for so long, I have no clue. We have all been aware of the budget shortfall and postponed moves. Wouldn't it be better just to be upfront and say so in the first place?
But that would be much too straightforward for the military, sigh. Everything has to be done in such a convoluted and twisted manner. Nothing can be simple and straightforward.
If I sound disgusted, I'm sorry. I'm really not that surprised, I was prepared for something like this to happen. I'm actually fairly pleased with myself for maintaining my decorum and not crying or ranting and raving about something that can't be changed. I just worry about getting orders and having a baby in the same little period of time. Hans' new command still wants him to report by January, so the timeframe of our move hasn't changed, just the amount of weeks we have to arrange an overseas move, buy a house, arrange for Josiah to start school, reregister vehicles, etc. All that great stuff.
I told Hans that I sincerely hope that this is it for us, that after this we will stay put. After six moves in the seven years we've been married, this whole business is getting a little old. Granted, we've been able to live in some amazing places and I wouldn't trade any of those experiences (yes, even Japan), but I would be happy to stay put from now until retirement.
Hans is supposed to be getting some sort of "letter of intent" from his new command to his current command, letting them know that his orders are pending in October. So, barring any unforeseen circumstances, we are 99.8% sure of our next duty station. We can't do anything concrete until we have the real orders, though, so it's pretty much useless in terms of getting things rolling.
OH---and it's Norfolk! Sorry, I guess I didn't mention that in all this!
