Someone Help Me Understand...

Why my upstairs neighbor does laundry for at least three hours every day? I'm seriously very interested to know. She starts the washer before 7:00 a.m. every day and runs it, with short breaks to reload, until at least 10:00. Sometimes it's lunchtime before she gives it a break.

I'm positive that we all have the same washers and dryers here and I can tell you, even on the setting for longest/heaviest wash, it doesn't take longer than 30 minutes to wash a full load of clothes. And these are big washers. I have a family of four here, including two messy children, and I still only have to do two loads every other day to keep my basket empty.

This lady has three boys, so yes, I'm sure she has more dirty clothes, but still...could she really be doing six plus loads of clothes every day?

If I sound irritated, I'm not. Well, not that irritated...the washer is a little loud when she starts it up before 7:00 a.m. I doubt she has any idea and I'm not going to tell her, because they're moving in February anyway. Hopefully we'll get some slobs overhead who never get around to doing their laundry.

I do whites and darks and that's it. Maybe some of you separate your laundry down even further. OK, sometimes I will wash things like throw rugs and mop heads and cleaning rags. That's about as specialized as I'll get. I'm just struggling to figure out why someone does that much laundry.

Any suggestions?

I would have to say that I can see that happening ... especially with three boys. My three boys (kids plus husband) keep my washer going daily (or it needs to be going daily). With the kids spills, Cory's daily sweaty workout clothes and towels that never seem to dry ... we do a lot of wash! I do mine late ... so I will have to ask my neighbors if it bothers them :)

Yeah, I don't know. It's not so much the noise of it (though it is a teeny bit annoying before 7:00), but just the sheer amount of time she spends doing it. It's a source of amazement to me and I always want to ask her but don't want her to think I find it annoying!

Maybe she's like Jan Kuehl and does an entire load of laundry for 3 towels and 3 washcloths...
So she's semi OCD about never having dirty laundry anywhere in the house.

Hey, did you not have clean clothes when you needed them? Stop dissing the mother. I am NOT OCD. Wait, is there too many spaces between these sentences?

I have been wondering if maybe she's OCD. She's very nice, but she does seem a little...tightly strung? I keep thinking "maybe she has a disease like OCD that makes her need to wash all the towels and bedding and curtains every single day". God, that would suck.

Maybe she is running an underground laundry or she has a housefull of terrorists? Besides your Mum really fills the washer full. It would not be like her to waste soap and water.

Is her husband gone a lot? I have heard the washer the is good for that. No personal experience.
