A Gift, Courtesy of the Panzer CDC
Our first gift from the Panzer CDC: a case of conjunctivitis.
Yay!
I remember a sign on the door of Josiah's classroom on Tuesday that said something about conjunctivitis and thinking "Oh well, that's nice, but not my kid".
Yeah, not that day maybe, but yesterday afternoon I noticed a large blob of crud in the corner of his left eye. I calf-roped him and wiped it out, only to have it reappear a few minutes later while we were running errands. Wiped it again while I recalled with sudden clarity the sign on the door announcing the scourge of pink eye.
Since then, his eye has pinked up, swollen up and become scratchy. I carefully explained to him last night at bedtime that he would most likely wake up and not be able to open his eye. I described how the mucus would seep from his eye all night and crust his (beautiful, long) eyelashes together. I left a wet washcloth by the bed and told him if he woke up to wipe his eye. But surprisingly, his eye was not crudded shut this morning. I'll take my small mercies.
I'm a little wary of Josiah and eye infections, especially since the cellulitis in "Live at the Tacoma Dome 2005", which Gen will remember with much fondness, our desperate attempts to find the children's hospital in Tacoma and our 265 hour wait to see an emergency doctor. Oh, and the trip to the ghetto Walgreen's at 2:00 a.m. Good times.
Josiah hasn't had an eye infection now since Japan. Unbelievably, he never got pink eye while attending school in Newport. And now, after one time at his new school, he gets pink eye and has to miss class today. Sigh. He's disappointed that he's going to miss the letter of the day, so I'll have to randomly pick a letter and make up some activities to appease him. Perhaps we'll choose "P" for pink eye.
Wondering, should I take him to the doctor or let it run its course? From all I can tell, it's a viral thing, like a cold. The thought of having to drag both of them to the doctor's office makes me break out in a cold sweat.
In other news: Annika used the potty for the first time last night. Probably a fluke thing, but we all danced around and cheered, so maybe...! What a thought, both my kids out of diapers. Sniff. I've been buying Pampers for almost four years straight.
OK, gotta go...have to disinfect everything and try to keep my hands and Annika's hands out of our respective eyes.

Comments
Yay for a successful potty experience! Here's to many more.
With this web cam business, it feels kind of redundant to comment on your blog. Pink eye, I don't know if I ever had it but I suppose we all have. You are always thinking ahead with Joe and his wash cloth, ordinarily a cold chisel would be required in the morning.
