Full of Scones

So, we haven't been up to too much today...we slept in verrrrrry late. Watched some MTV, "Parental Control". We've seen it once or twice before. It's kind of interesting. Basically, the premise of this show is this: a young lady or gentleman (and of course, I use those terms very loosely) is dating someone that his/her parents think is absolutely unacceptable. The parents interview and choose two new prospective mates for their son/daughter. More often than not, it's the daughter who needs a new boyfriend. I've only seen one in which the parents hated the girlfriend. Anyway. The fun part comes when the son/daughter's parents watch via video the two dates with the prospective mates. The parents watch it with the current, awful boyfriend or girlfriend. It's totally quality entertainment. We have seen exactly one show where the girl dumps the awful current boyfriend and goes with one of the new guys.

Anyhoo. We spent most of the morning lounging and watching TV shows that we normally can only watch after 8:00 p.m. Haha, we watched them in the morning. I have to say that it has been nice not having to watch the usual lineup of cartoons. We have also been enjoying the king-size bed (remove your minds from the gutter!)...E, Lindsey, I can totally see why you'd want a king-size mattress. It's like Hans and I each have our own personal beds! If you want to snuggle, that's great, roll over twice and we're both in the middle. However, if you've been married for almost five years like us and the snuggling all night just isn't really fun anymore, you can roll over twice and it's like we're on different continents. Sweet. Because, seriously, does anyone snuggle all night? Seriously? Probably Gen and Scuba do...but only because the dogs are sleeping on Gen's side of the bed!

We finished up our shopping today. I found things for everyone on my list, but I have to say that I was a little disappointed in the shopping. As I've complained about before, everything is expensive. Verrrrry expensive. However, seeing as I've eaten peanut butter sandwiches and/or had oatmeal at least once every day, I felt that I had saved enough money to blow a lot on souvenirs. I really didn't find much, though. Linen is very popular here on the island, but it's either very fine stuff, meaning that it's so expensive that it would never even leave the closet or drawer, or it's cheap and garish...which means that it would also probably never get used. I found a happy medium in gifts for Janet and Donna, who deserve good gifts after spending the week with the babes.

After we finished shopping, we came back to the hotel and had high tea. Scones, little tea sandwiches, Earl Grey tea, tiny deserts...the whole nine yards. We sat on comfy little settees overlooking the koi pond and fountain. It was all very proper and nice. Interesting fact: taking tea didn't become popular until the late 1700s. Here I thought tea was something the British have done since...well, since forever. Turns out Britons take their supper very late, so tea became a way to have a nice little snack in between meals. Mmmm, the scones were very good as were the sandwiches. One type had salmon and asparagus on it, another had chili butter and cucumber. Believe it or not, the cucumber sandwiches are pretty dang good.

So, I think that the rest of this day is going to be spent lounging. We are ready to go home. Believe it or not, I haven't missed the babies as much as I thought I would. I thought I'd be overcome with worry and missing them after only a few hours, but I have spent relatively little time thinking about them. We have been able to call Donna everyday, so that helps. The only time I catch myself thinking of them is when we see other families with small children. Now that it's the end of our sojourn, I find myself starting to feel a little anxious to get home. I know that by tomorrow afternoon on the ride home, I'm going to be starting to get on Hans' nerves in my rush to get home and get my little hugs and kisses!

It is very fun for me to now know what you mean about watching Ruby and Max goes to the clinic & Space Max. It was a lot of fun for Donna and I to discover the "Postman Pat" for some variety.

We think Annika is going to be a star in gymnastics. And just like I needed to learn the Star Wars characters when Hans was small, I am learning the Thomas characters. And a couple of times I have heard Donna call Josiah, Hans.

Glad you are enjoying the vacation.

Yes, it is a well known fact that Scuba and I could use a king size bed...or better trained dogs. There has been a recent development this summer, however. Juno and Lewis don't sleep on the bed anymore!! I'd like to say it was because of our iron discipline, but we really aren't sure what has caused this change. It feels like we have a king size bed now!
