Cologne

Will, relaxing in the hotel in Cologne (almost holding his own bottle!)

At the Stollwerck Chocolate Factory

Josiah and Annika had SO much fun at the chocolate factory (well, who wouldn't, right?!) watching the chocolate go from cocoa bean to wrapped and packaged.

Hans took the boys, while Annika and I went off on our own to explore the cathedral...we discussed mosaics, holy relics and sarcophagi.

Ah, the cathedral at Köln! As I told you, I've been to this beautiful church on two occasions - both Easter Sundays - 1977 and 1984. It's amazing this cathedral wasn't bombed during WWII.

I would have loved touring the chocolate factory with you!

Will has a great smile!

I've read somewhere that the Allies didn't bomb the cathedrals because they made good landmarks for future bombings...probably they were left alone out of respect too, though, I'm guessing.

We went to the Imperial Throne Room/Constantine Basilika in Trier and that HAD gotten bombed up pretty good...and then I feel kind of guilty as an American in there looking at their historical pictures of what it DID look like before we creamed them. But only slightly. After all, they started it!

AMAZING.
I love to believe that the Allies didn't bomb out of respect for such beautiful architecture.
Rachie, maybe we can hit this spot in 2019?

Oh, forgot that I love that picture of Will smiling too. He is so photogenic...must get that from Hans De For.

Will appears to take all this history stuff and traveling right in stride.
Gen "accidentally" left some of the chocolate she brought from Germany here. Yummy...
