The Cloth Diaper Update

Lindsey asked how the cloth diapering is going.

I am here to tell you that it is going great for a number of reasons:
  • Will is very regular and usually has his poo upon waking up in the morning, thus in his disposable diaper.
  • He also poops only once per day, so I have experienced cleaning a dirty cloth diaper exactly twice on that rare occasion when he gifts us with a second poo.
  • I bought two more Bum Genius 3.0s and have begun using them properly. Before, when I had three diapers, I was putting the microfiber doublers next to Will's skin outside the diaper pocket. This worked pretty well except that the diapers are meant to have the doublers stuffed inside the pocket--it puts the nice, soft wicking layer next to the baby's skin, rather than a wet bunch of microfiber.
  • Like I said, I bought two more, so I have a total of five, which works great. I change him about every 2-1/2 hours or thereabouts. At the end of the day, I take all the liners out of the damp diapers and I throw everything in a hot washer. They dry from about 8:30-9:30 and then they are ready to be used the next day.
  • I still am using the paper liners, just in case, but I discovered from reading someone's website that if the papers are just wet, they can be washed and air dried one time before they get flushed. So I'm getting double use out of the liners. They're $7.99 for a roll of 100-120.

So, the final verdict is that it's going well. Like I said, we use disposables at night, which is a good thing since he's sleeping 11-12 hours at a stretch and we need something with plenty of wicking power. Last night, he slept from 7:00 p.m.-6:15 a.m.

Yeah, I know...go ahead and kill me! Like I tell everyone, I have easy babies. It's when they hit age three that they pay me back! ; )

You have a great system going there. I'm glad the cloth diapers are going so well. I have always been curious what people think of them. I am going to be SO glad when Aaron is potty trained--but then what excuse will I have to go to Target? Hmmmmm.....

Thanks for the update!
