J Crew Can Kiss My Gap-Clad Butt!

Just a quick message for my girls out there who love J Crew and keep buying their ridiculously overpriced crap.

Stop.

I too have worshipped before the hallowed J Crew catalog, drooling over the cashmere sweaters, but NO MORE. I have had nothing but crappy luck with the last few things I've bought from J Crew. My beautiful chocolate colored cords? Crap. One wearing and the knees had the cord worn off them. Seriously, the knees were a completely different color. My lovely Cambridge cable bright pink wool-blend hoodie sweater? Crap. It was all pilled after about three wearings PLUS I found a big hole in it. The same for my two very cute empire-waist, tie-back tops I got last summer. HOLES in both of them, under the arms. I'm not that hard on clothes.

I have a pile of J Crew's cashmere sweaters...cashmere may be the only thing they do right. That and khaki pants, capris and shorts. So, if you still feel the need to give J Crew your hard earned cash, buy cashmere or khakis.

The final straw was today when I discovered that my J Crew bikini is completely losing the hem on the bottom around the waistline. This is the blue polka-dotted one that you sent me Gen, with the underwire top. I think you wore it maybe a handful of times and I have too. Less than 10 times. Crap.

Ladies, save your money. Spend your money at the Gap or Boden. I am loving Boden. I have some new things from them and the quality is fantastic. Or Esprit.

Now excuse my while I go apply my J Crew patch. It helps with the withdrawal.

This must be the prime downside of on-line shopping. I wonder where these crappy items were manufactured? Globalization is not a good thing a lot of the time. Maybe J Crew has someone that surfs the net looking for J Crew comments and they will be contacting you with money and apologies? Not bloody likely I'm thinking.

Yeah, I gave up on them awhile back...after I ordered about $500 worth of stuff and it was all...CRAP. Looked like it had been washed 11,000 times and then driven over by the UPS truck a couple of times too.
I truly believe that Target has better quality stuff than J Crew does. I even un-subscribed from their catalog.
I'm kind of excited about this Boden place. Never heard of it, so I'll have to check it out soon!!

Boden is a British company. Yes, you will find them to be a little high priced, but the stuff is really good and they have really excellent sales. Also, they have adorable children's and baby's clothing. I think the website is www.boden.com.

It's funny, because I think I was part of the J Crew target demographic, and I've never bought a thing from them. Now that I read this, I'm rather glad I shop at other stores...

The comment about Boden was from me, not Hans. One of the side-effects of sharing the laptop here at the hotel...I forget to log out as him.

Oh, and I completely agree with you Gen, when you say that the stuff all looked washed and run over. I'll never forget buying a shirt from J Crew that came purposely twisted into a ball to achieve that "worn" look. WTH? I sent that one back. What a sham!

I was sort of wondering when Hans acquired this interest in shopping and baby clothes. Did he have a side I was unaware of in college?
