Fever!

That word makes me think of Mrs. Krebapple at the school talent show, popping her balloons. Classic. Hans and I have been watching some older episodes of "The Simpsons". They are so relentlessly funny. What happened to our favorite residents of Springfield?

Anyway, I seriously have a fever and feel like crud today. After we got back from Gamerdinger yesterday, I started feeling very achy in my knees and back and pretty soon I was prostrate on the couch, moaning with my teeth chattering. I was so cold that I ended up sitting on the floor of the shower for about 20 minutes with the water temp way up. It was the only way (well, that and a lot of Advil) that I could stop chattering. Went to bed and in the middle of the night, woke up burning up and sweating under all my blankets and pajamas. Threw a bunch of stuff off and went back to sleep, then woke up again at 2:30 freezing with my teeth chattering.

Of course, Hans sleeps blissfully through all of this. It's times like these when I wish I could trade him up for my Mommy. She would lovingly tuck blankets around me and spoon feed me Jell-O. And ask me if she could do anything if I was sitting around with my teeth chattering.

So now I'm doing O.K. I had my first Red Cross council meeting this morning. I'm their new volunteer secretary, so I sit in on these meetings once per month and take notes. It took me so long to get dressed and get the kids going this morning that I almost just called to tell them that I was in the process of expiring and couldn't be bothered to do the meeting, but somehow, I dragged myself over there. I know. I deserve a Nobel Peace Prize, right?

Anyway, as long as I keep taking Tylenol every four hours, I'm doing OK. But the house isn't getting cleaned and I'm not spending any time reading stories for the kids or constructing elaborate playtime for them, which makes me feel guilty. Today, I counted on "Meet the Robinson's" to get us through the afternoon. I slept on the couch while they watched it. Thank you, oh goddess of media!

I'm sorry to learn you are sick, Rachel. I will be praying for you to have a speedy recovery. I'll bet if you asked Josiah to get you a drink of water, we would do it.
Take care.

No. Josiah has been absolutely naughty and mean to me today. No matter how many times I tell him I don't feel well, he's still doing stuff like ramming Annika's shopping cart into my aching knees. He has been very, VERY naughty today. Thank heavens Hans is home now and can take charge.

Oh, poor honey. I'm sure Hans would feed you some jell-o, right? Hmmm...I don't understand Joe, though. I was always amazed at how good you kids would be when I got sick! Ram the cart into his knees next time he's sick. Just kidding, of course. The thought does make you feel better though, doesn't it. Hang in there!
