My Secret Life

When Hans leaves and I have the house to myself, and the kids are all tucked up in bed, I indulge.

I'm busy downloading ABBA (sorry, can't make the second "B" backwards), Neil Diamond and Gordon Lightfoot songs onto my iPod.

When Hans reads this, I'm certain he'll groan out loud. After all, his music taste is so much more refined. Tell the truth, honey: how many times did we watch/listen to Weird Al's song "White & Nerdy" this week? Truthfully, now?

Besides, you all can't tell me that "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" doesn't rock. Hello, it's about Lake Superior. Well, part of it is about Wisconsin, but I just plug my ears during that part.

And just try not to get up and dance to "If You Change Your Mind"!

Truthfully, we watched "White & Nerdy" at least four times in a row this weekend. Hans just goes crazy for Donny Osmond! And I know how he feels, because I had a huge crush on Donny when I was about six. I even had a really super hot green T-shirt with one of those great 1970s iron-ons of Donny's head. Hello, Jan? Did you really buy that for me? She won't remember it, I'm sure. But I dooooo. Oh Donny!!

Oh, God. The ABBA song is "Take a Chance". I'm more of a nerd than I thought. Sorry, everyone. Somehow as I typed it last night, I knew it was wrong and yet I left it and there it was this morning, a glaring, glaring error in my blog that 12 people read...

I'd like to point out that Yrs. Truly has both White And Nerdy and a LOT of Gordon Lightfoot on my iPod (Yes! I have an iPod!); in fact, I even performed a Certain Song by Mr. Lightfoot on karaoke night a few months back.

This is not to say that "W&N" isn't great; when the artist parodied acknowledges Al's talents, well...that's just cool, right?

ABBA, though? Yeesh. Even I have my limits.
