Treasures
When we arrived in Germany last December, I hand-carried a few very precious things with me. Items that probably wouldn't mean anything to anyone else, but mean the world to me.
One, the silver dollar that my Grandpa gave me dated 1974 (the year of my birth), which I have had forever and never leave home without. I never fly without it, it's always in my pocket on the plane. I fly with the silver dollar and I always place my palm against the plane when I'm entering and pray. It's just my thing...
The other, two cameos that also belonged to my Grandpa. Those of you who were at our wedding know that I wore one and gave one each to my sister and my mother. I also had one that's much smaller than my wedding cameo that I always intended to make into a ring.
We were in the hotel in Stuttgart for about three weeks and the last I remembered of the cameos, I had put them on a high shelf where I was also putting my wedding rings at the end of the day, etc. Then we moved into our apartment on base and suddenly I couldn't find my cameos. I looked everywhere in my purses, bags and luggage we had had at the hotel. No luck. I figured that they had been lost or stolen and were gone forever.
This morning, getting my special little passport pouch out to get passport info to Hans (YES, we are in the preliminary stages of MAC flighting to the States, details forthcoming), I felt something in one of the little pockets and out came my cameos! I was utterly shocked to see them and so thankful. I have thought about them off and on for almost a year.
And how many times have I been carrying my passport pouch around with me in the last year? Many, many times without knowing that they were there.
My day has been made.

Glad to hear that they were found--I didn't know they were lost.
I wear the cameo necklace about once a week still...
