Oh, the Irony

Oh, and did I mention that our friends at the car dealership called us yesterday to tell us (mind you, five weeks AFTER we've ordered) that Volkswagen refuses to ship the Routan to Europe because:

There's no one here who is trained to work on it.

As Genevieve says, that's irony for you. A German car, albeit built in Canada. As far as I know, it's VW's standard 6-cylinder engine. There's no funny stuff there. I called VW customer service in the US to ask about it. The nice lady that I spoke to said she didn't know anything about it, but gosh darn, it was a shame since (and she mentioned this twice) the Routan is such a beautiful vehicle.

Well, geez. That makes me feel a lot better lady! Why don't you just rub it in a little more?

I'm not sure what we'll do now. Obviously we don't really, really need a minivan right this immediate second. But. We (or maybe just me and the kids) were getting excited about welcoming our new vehicle. The sliding doors, the power tailgate, the DVD players, the underfloor storage, the third row seat, the MP3 hookup, the cargo capacity...sniff.

For the first time, I'm feeling a little miffed and disappointed in VW.

We want a Routan so much that we're considering the logistics of contacting a VW dealership near a port in the US and seeing if we can buy it and have them ship it to us privately.

Because damn. We're that devoted to VW. Thanks a lot Hans. It's like the Moonies or something, once you're in, you never get to leave!

Um, this is your call, Rach, but I think I'd come down a little harder on customer service. I think VW "owes" you more than a lame "sorry". I'd try CS again and ask to speak to a supervisor. You guys placed that order months ago. You should have known then so you could order something else. I think a nice little "rebate" should be in order if they want to keep good VW customers. And if you don't get satisfaction, ask to speak to the supervisor's supervisor. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Complain enough and to enough people and you might get some sort of satisfaction or money or the actual product.

This might be the first time I've ever seen a German car company compared to the Moonies. The mental imagery alone made this worthwhile.
