Garmisch Part Drei

We are back from Garmisch. That's right, I packed up the kids and did an overnight all by my lonesome self, far, far from home.

Instead of typing long-winded paragraphs about every little detail of our excursion, I'm just going to do bullet-points. We're all a little tired here at the Haus of D4. So here is a rundown:

  • Packed up kids, DVD player, titis, Dora. Left on schedule at 8:00 a.m.
  • Enjoyed taking yet another route to Garmisch as we were diverted off the autobahn before Ulm...ended up driving through Munich and then down.
  • Now I can say that I've been through Munich. I didn't see Eric Bana, much to my disappointment.
  • Met Jen and the boys at Garmisch, had lunch and proceeded to Lake Eibsee. I'm not sure if it's redundant to say "lake" before Eibsee as "see" (say zee) means "lake", but whatever.
  • Proceeded to hike around the lake, take pictures, throw rocks into the lake, throw rocks at ducks, climb up large rock formations, and kill witches (ask Josiah and Carson, I'm not privy to their private games).
  • Two smallish children proceeded to get their socks, shoes and pantlegs wet by going into the Eibsee, though I repeatedly told them not to.
  • Even so, we all had ice cream before we left the lake. It was tasty.
  • Checked into the hotel and relaxed for 4.5 minutes, then it was off to the pool.
  • After 1-1/2 hours of being splashed and splashing, regrouped and went to the restaurant for dinner. Unfortunately, had to have a burger as kids would not let me go to the Chinese buffet at the other restaurant. We shall meet again, sweet and sour pork. Oh yes.
  • Got a drink to go (isn't that cool), returned to room, put children to bed, then sat out on terrace, overlooking Zugspitze, drank said cocktail and read. Alone, in silence, with an awe-inspiring view.
  • Woke up today (obviously), had a lovely buffet breakfast at which my children were amazingly well-behaved.
  • Josiah decided he wished to ride the train, so we packed up and drove to the train station, boarded the next train leaving.
  • Rode to the tiny village of Klais, which is south of Garmisch. Spent 20 minutes there, then rode the train back to Garmisch.
  • Drove home.
  • Collapsed in thankfulness and sheer exhaustion.

This concludes my presentation of our overnight in Garmisch. Please enjoy the pictures.

Sounds like a wonderful adventure, Rach. The drink on the terrace sounds very inviting too. Can we do that somewhere too? I really, really admire your adventurous spirit. You would have made a great pioneer! Thanks for another great story!

I feel like I am almost there on the terrace with my citrus tea. I went to a friends of the library sale this week end and got armed for the future - now just to find the time (no, I need to make the time) to read.

It was more like citrus vodka than tea... :)
