A Big Day for Baby Bear

Today was William's 4th birthday...four years ago tonight, he was born at Boblingen Krieskrankenhaus on a perfect Stuttgart fall night.  The great event is chronicled here in the archives, October 2009.

He still feels like a baby to me, our little caboose.  I went to try his 3T pants on him just the other day.  They just fit him.  Like, two months ago fit him.  And now they're 2" too short!

The days are long, but the years are short.

This year has been a short one.  We have been on quite a ride in the last 365 days and we are barely making our slow ascent up the hill that is Japan.

Will can be a pain in the butt.  He can be stubborn, angry, and outright mean.  But I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through all of these days and nights alone without him.  He always wakes up in a good mood.  He didn't mind all those nights that I carried him, warm and sleeping, from his bed to mine because I just didn't want to sleep alone.  He is my snuggler, my hugger and kisser.  He kissed my toes today...

He has shown an explosion, not just in physical growth, but in emotional growth and language and letters, shapes, colors.  I know that it won't be long before he makes the leap from phonics to reading words.  He's on the cusp.  I love this time, when learning is a joy and effortless.

Happy Birthday, Big Bear!  We love you...

Decorating his choice--chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles!

We had two 4 candles, so of course, we had to use both...

Presents!  He really got a wide variety of great gifts--they kept him busy all afternoon.

Took him out back afterwards--this kid can hit.  Hard and straight!

Great binoculars and a magnifying glass from Haba.

Thanks to the Theobalds...we played castle tonight and the fire-shooting dragon was a big hit.
