The One in Which I Explain Why There are STILL No Pictures...

When did I last post?

I don't know, but it feels like a hundred years ago.  Seriously, it was probably last week.  The days seem like they are rushing past, but the weeks seems so long looking back.

Anyway, what's been happening?

Last week there was a lot of activity involving the house and the fact that our beloved insurance company (seriously, I LOVED them, I am in mourning) would not insure our home for us.  I ended up at Allstate, who would insure our home and moved our auto insurance over to them as well.  That took a lot of phone calls and a lot of time and energy.  And it was a surprise money loss as well--we expected that we'd be paying homeowners and flood insurance with our mortgage payment, but turns out--we have to pay the first year upfront and then escrow kicks in.

Forgot about that part, oops.  I am still talking to people who are surprised that we had to pay all the insurance upfront, but it makes sense to me.  Next year, it won't be an issue.

So--the house is all insured.  I wish that USAA would have given me an explanation as to why they wouldn't insure...I got the explanation from another insurance agent, who said that because we are in a flood and hurricane-prone area, most insurance companies limit the amount of property they will insure in case of a big storm.  They'd get wiped out.  That makes sense.

Blah, blah.  Insurance, how boring, right?  But it had to be taken care of before we could keep writing the mortgage.  Friday seems to be the bomb-dropping day, and my mortgage broker called to tell me that we can't do a final appraisal until construction is absolutely complete and not even one nail is still laying around the house.  Oh, and they can't fully, FULLY approve the mortgage until that final appraisal is done AND they need 4-5 days between the appraisal and closing to get the mortgage finalized.

Sigh.  I have it on good authority from our builders that they should be done on 4/25.  SHOULD being the operative word.

That being said, I went over to peek on Monday and they were laying tile in the kitchen and bathrooms, the drywall and plaster work is all finished and they are going to start painting the interior tomorrow.  I picked out an exterior trim color while I was there.  Joycey-Baby and I are going back over tomorrow to look again, but it DOES seem like work is progressing in a timely fashion, so I have a lot of hope that it will be done a little early and that we will be able to move in and "rent" before we close.

Everyone, keep your fingers and toes crossed.

Now, as to why there are no pictures.  I could be taking pictures with my iPhone, yes, I could and I will try to tomorrow, promise.  The pictures I have been taking up to now have been with the good camera.  Ready for the convoluted backstory?  We sold our massive desk.  It was really much bigger than we needed and too big for the place we have picked for it in the new house...SO.  I don't have a desktop computer right now and I don't like downloading photos on the laptops.

And THAT is my excuse.  The new desk should be here sometime next week, but I'm not sure if my computer guy will want to set the desktop back up again when we'll just end up tearing it down in a couple of weeks.  I will take some pictures with the iPhone tomorrow, promise.

In other news:  Just two more days of being the XO's wife, hooray!  Hans had his farewell on Friday...CO was very late and his wife almost didn't make it because (in the CO's own words) "she had a migraine or so she said".  I can't make this stuff up.  I felt bad for Hans and everyone else in the wardroom and I was embarassed for the new XO coming in--what sort of impression did she get from the CO being so late?  Everyone had to wait to eat because we couldn't start until they arrived.  Anyway, it turned out fine in the end.  The one wife that I know in the wardroom brought me a bunch of neat farewell gifts--a cow cookie jar and a cow coffee cup and a bunch of other things (COW, get it?).  I wasn't expecting anyone to think of me--why would they since we have been about as unsocial as a wardroom can be, so I was very touched by her thoughtfulness.  Supper was good, conversation was good, I had a couple of drinks and Hans and I got some time without the Three Musketeers.

Hans will be rung off as XO for the last time on Friday.  The kids start spring break on Friday, so I'm hoping to bring everyone out to the ship to go through that transition with him.

And yes, I'll try to take pictures...!
