501st Post
Gosh, my last post, morose as it was, was my 500th post. Wowsers!
Anyway...the great saga has finally come to an end. I think that we have made peace with the fact that we'll be staying in Stuttgart. We're disappointed, sure. We were looking forward to owning our own home, going to Target, having DirecTV--you know, silly stuff like that. The normal American dream.
But hey--now we have another year to experience life in Europe. I want to sit down tonight and make a plan for the year: where we'll go, what we'll try to see and do in this twelve-month bonus.
The good news (oh yes, there's good news here!): Hans called the housing office this morning and lo and behold, they had a four-bedroom apartment available in the next building over. Hans went over and picked up the apartment key and we checked it out. It's only about 100-150 SF bigger than our current place, but it has that key fourth bedroom for Will. There was no way I was going to keep living in this tiny apartment with nowhere to put a crib for Will! So--we accepted it and we're going to start moving over the weekend.
The only bad side of this is that we have to move ourselves...ugh. I haven't had to do that since 2002. But the new apartment is only about a block away (our shortest Navy move EVER!), so we'll get a dolly or something and move stuff box by box. Hans already has a bunch of people lined up to help us with our big stuff.
This just in: other good news: our Audi lady just called and although Hans' new car is already on the ship to the U.S. (because we were assured we were headed to Norfolk), they will turn around and put it back on the ship back to Germany. At no charge! This was our second biggest worry.
So...I've got some online shopping to do. I've got to find out where I can get a crib in Germany!

We are so sad you won't be back in the US, but I'm so glad you guys have finally been allowed to move on. Literally & figuratively :)
Good news about the new car, too. It's also nice that Josiah won't have to change schools this year. So, there are some good things. I'm proud of you for hanging in there!
I am happy your staying!!!
