9.11

I am horrified that I woke up this morning and went about my everyday life for a couple of hours before realizing that today is September 11th.

I suppose that someday our kids will roll their eyes whenever we talk about our experiences of 9/11, kind of like we roll our eyes over our parents talking about the day JFK was shot...one really has to be there to fully appreciate the awfulness of it, I guess.

We're removed from home and activities commemorating the anniversary...I haven't seen anything planned for on-post, which is a little strange given that the day involved not only thousands of civilians but also many military and government personnel.

I hope that as a country, we aren't too fixated on current events to forget what happened on this day.

Never. Forget.

I remembered this is the anniversary or that horrible event in our history - but forgot to wear red/white/blue. I may change clothes when I go home for lunch. I'll put out my flag then also.

Thank you for the post. I did not think of the date until I read this. You are absolutely right--never forget.....
All three of the major networks have carried memorial services this morning. They are very moving. President Obama spoke at the one at the Pentegon.

We have our alarm set to Public Radio and we woke to hear a father talking about his two sons, who were firemen that died that day. It was very moving...

Eight years ago already. You're right, of course...we need to be reminded of what happened that day and what is still happening today.

There is a good coumtry song about not forgetting the Towers. It says we should play it back every day so we stay fired up about the subject. I think it is called "Have you forgotten". The father your Mom referred to said that the last thing that they said to each other was" I love you". It kind of makes you think about the things that you say to loved ones doesn't it?

I remember that day, I was getting up with Noah who was a baby at the time. i turned on the tv at 730 or so, to see them talking to a witness that just saw the first plane go into the building, and then the second plane went into the other. i was quite confused as to what was going on. i watched the news all day , it was quite shocking to say the least. i'll never forget that day and all that died.
