Weekday News Update

It's been almost a week now since I found out, but item number one on the list is to announce the arrival, in October, of a new baby BOY to our family! If you are among the surprised, consider me one of the party, because I was completely convinced that we were having another girl. This supposition was completely based on some sort of old wives tale stating that most women get sick with one sex or the other, and seeing as I was laid out for the first trimester with Josiah and perfectly peachy with Annika, I figured this was a girl too. Meaning, I haven't been sick at all. Take that, old wives! Wrong again!

Anyway, we are having a boy! After my appointment, I went to pick up Josiah and Annika, who were anxiously awaiting word. When I said "It's a boy!" Josiah started cheering and Annika promptly started sobbing. Guess she really wanted a girl. This excitement/non-excitement may be based on the fact that I had told the kids that one of them could eventually get bunkbeds, depending on what sex the baby was. Annika seems to have resigned herself to the fact that she will be bookended by boys, which some people have mentioned may not be a bad thing as she is beautiful, smart, tough and has a tongue like a viper. She is most definitely going to get herself into trouble of some type. Maybe having two level-headed brothers to defend and protect her will help.

I keep thinking of all her beautiful little clothes...and please, no commentary that Hans and I could still have another little girl. I don't think so, thank you very much. For starters, we are getting old for this baby game, and also, I have one little girl and she is proving to have the horsepower of sextuplet baby girls, so I think we're done. D-O-N-E. But someone else please have a baby girl so that I can see all of those sweet little pink things used again. The days of flowery pink things may even be over for my three-year-old, because she is getting a definite idea of what she likes and dislikes wearing, and she's really more of a jeans and T-shirt girl.

I think she's going to get on fine with two brothers.

Second very important piece of news: Hans will be home early next week. Am I able to tell you when, where and what time? Of course not, but I can say that it is early next week in the morning and will require us to get up at an unusually early hour to get on the road. He tried to get a direct flight into Stuttgart, but wasn't able, but I told him "I don't care where or when, we WILL BE THERE!!"

To say that we're both in a ridiculous state of excitement is an understatement. Oh, Hans will act all cool and in control, but I can tell you that he is secretly giggling like a little girl full of sugar. He's ready. And of course, I'm ready. The children are constructing signs and cards and already determining what trains and pieces of paraphernalia they'll be dragging along. I won't lie, I have a new dress that only makes me resemble a sea lion at certain angles...I hope it won't be too much of a shock for him to come home and find out that I've put on a little weight in certain places...!

A big thank you to everyone who prayed for him and us while he was gone, who e-mailed, called, sent letters or packages. There were some rough spots in there, but we're almost done. Thank you!

More after the homecoming...
