The Great Museum am Lowentor Adventure
I wish I knew why I get these sudden brilliant inspirations..."Hey, we haven't done anything different for awhile, it's time to try something new!". Sigh.
Couple that with Josiah's sudden desire to see dinosaur skeletons and the fact that it was a warm a sunny day today in Stuttgart and we had an outing on our hands. I Googled "Stuttgart dinosaur museum", because I had heard from someone that there was a dinosaur museum. Probably Jen, since her guys are so into dinosaurs. Got everyone dressed, packed us a lunch, brought the camera and the 756 pieces of necessary miscellaneous junk that we might need, and we were off.
Things were going swimmingly until we got downtown and suddenly, Dora decides to play that fun game with me. You know, the one where she suddenly blurts out "Turn left NOW or turn sharp right NOW"...with no advance warning? So it looks like I'm recreating a scene from Ronin all on my own, squealing around corners? I swear, Dora just enjoys being evil sometimes. Three or four times, she ordered me to turn right, then right again, then right again....back to the original road. I think she enjoys getting me riled up, though it's not hard to do.
I had the address of the museum programmed in, you know, the one on the official website. Well, that got us nowhere, so I had to try to quick have Dora do a search for nearby museums...all while at stoplights because there is nowhere to park in downtown Stuttgart. The first address didn't work. Dora found a museum that I thought was the dinosaur museum, but turned out the first three words were the same...so she took us to another dead end. Finally, I was at a stoplight long enough to get the correct museum.
Yeah, third time was not a charm. She did take us to a museum and I suspect that it was affiliated with the dinosaur museum, but it was not the dinosaur museum. It was...in the middle of a park. Dora instructed me to drive on the trails into the park...which turned out to be walking trails and probably not meant to drive on as I was getting some very, very strange looks. So I hightailed it out of there as quick as I could. It's days like these that I wish we had the regular European license plate and not the distinctive small square plate that screams "AMERICANNNN!!!"
So we drove out of the park, scattering walkers left and right, went around the corner and lo and behold...dinosaurs! I really need to work on my trust issues with the Lord, because seriously, He gets us there every time, even if it is quite an adventure along the way.
The museum was quite nice, very small and luckily, there were only a couple of people there besides us, all with (for Germans) boisterous kids. So I didn't feel as out of place as I usually do. We went from floor to floor, admiring the models, dioramas and skeletons. They had some nice activities for the kids to do, coloring, sifting for fossils, stuff like that. After we were done, we went outside and had our picnic and the kids burned some steam off. Then, back home so I could put my feet up for awhile.
So, anyway, except for the frustrating time with Dora and the embarassment of driving where I probably was not meant to drive, we had a great outing. Enjoy the pictures!
