Children of God Go Bowling
The name of a book by Shannon Olson, the sequel to "Welcome to my Planet (Where English is Sometimes Spoken)". I bought these books a long time ago when I was a single woman searching for love and found Shannon to be a kindred spirit. Plus, there is the added bonus of the fact that Shannon is from Chaska and the book is pretty much autobiographical, so she talks about growing up in a small town in Minnesota, going to St. Olaf College and eventually for graduate work at the University of Minnesota. Oh, and going to Target. She goes to Target a lot and suffers from the same syndrome as I do: go in for paper towels, come out with candles, a plant, some nail polish, a new shirt and a DVD.
Anyway, if you're ever looking for something funny and lightweight to read, check out these two books. Even though my single struggles have ended--well, I guess I'm kind of single right now, technically--I still identify with Shannon and remember the struggle to find that perfect someone.
Don't tell Hans I said he was perfect...
I'm on a kick for reading books set in Minnesota right now, so I'll leave comments open if anyone wants to give me some suggestions. I've got Sinclair Lewis and Fitzgerald covered and I'm rereading "Summer of Ordinary Ways" by Nicole Helget, which is set around Sleepy Eye.
Back to bowling. The three of us went bowling on Friday afternoon after Josiah was done with school. I have been watching too much "Supernanny" I think...bowling is one of those activities that she encourages families to try in order to promote bonding, not that we really need to bond. I mean, my kids are pretty much bonded to my side 24/7 lately! We had a lot of fun, though certain members of the party were only willing to bowl seven frames and then found it more entertaining to run from lane to lane, feeling the ball dryer blowing her hair around. We were the only people bowling.
With bumpers and the metal ramp contraption to push the ball down, Josiah bowled an 83. Without bumpers and the ramp, I bowled a 67. I do so much better on the Wii, how is that possible? Next time, I'll ask for the bumpers.
Annika liked the shoes: "Mama, these shoes are cool!"

Good suggestion.
Why on EARTH were you running around letting the ball dryer blow your hair around, Rachel? You're supposed to be a responsible parent and role model for impressionable youth! ;]
I will not comment on Hans's alleged perfection...I'll just keep quiet. Yep. Real quiet.
