Fairytales Can Come True

Sing with me: "it can happen to you...when you're yooooounnngg at hearttttt".

Hans used to play a lot of Sinatra-esque music for me back when he was trying to woo me, so I always equate that type of music with our early dating days. I shouldn't say "trying", I am pretty sure that I was woo'ed within moments of our first meeting! Anyway, he was very honest about his music tastes...he didn't even try to hide the fact that he owned the soundtrack for "The Powerpuff Girls".

Where am I going with this? I have no idea. Bear with me while I rearrange my thoughts. Oh, I was thinking that we will be celebrating the seventh anniversary of our engagement here soon. Or possibly it has already passed. I know it was a day in the latter half of March. It wasn't exactly a surprise since the always-subtle-as-a-sledgehammer Hans had asked me earlier what sort of engagement ring I might like, you know, if I was to inexplicably become engaged? And, as he will tell you (feigning shock), it took me all of 6.2 seconds to log onto the computer and start designing my own ring on Blue Nile. Well, I am not the procrastinator in this relationship. Right, sweetie?

A few more extremely random things:

Annika and I went to IKEA yesterday for a mother-daughter date. Annika was extremely pleasant to be around yesterday. I briefed her before we went in, to let her know that she would be riding in the buggy at all times and that we weren't going to play in any of the play areas. And for some reason, she was OK with that. She didn't carry on as she sometimes does when told no. We had a pleasant little lunch watching the cars go by on the street below. I had a large portion of meatballs (yum, my favorite) and she had the kindermenu, which is basically pasta. She smeared sauce all over her face, but she sat nicely and didn't try to abscond the entire time. I bought a basket and a spatula. I know, exciting! Mindboggling! I saw furniture that I liked, but since it involves assembly and my cursing, sweating assembler is in Kabul, I'll wait. Because I don't want Hans to miss out! He loooooves IKEA!

I bought a Simple Human trash can and I love it. The kids love to step on the little pedal and see the lid open, though for some reason, Annika is taking this as a reason to explore what's IN the trash and bring me back things that I've thrown out that she feels should be reinstated into our daily lives. If I'm throwing away a Happy Meal toy from six months ago, I have to be sure to bury it under some paper towels or something, otherwise she brings it to me with an accusing, aggrieved look on her face.

It was warm here yesterday but very windy. Sure enough, the new cover on Hans' car blew up from the back and over the hood of the car. Poor Katarina, out there with her naked bottom in the wind! After we get cleaned up, I have to go out and pull her dress down, but how to weight it so that it doesn't blow up from the back? Dad? Any ideas? I have it tied down in the middle and locked to one of the front wheels. Maybe I'll get a cable for one of the back tires too. Sheesh.

It snowed lightly here last night, but I think it'll be gone by lunchtime. Which is good, because, like all of you at home, I'm ready for spring.

I bought new dishes! Eeeek, I know. Am I on my way to rivaling Donna? I don't think so, but I now own three complete sets of dishes. I was ready for a change, Macy's had a good sale, and we have to stimulate the economy, right? It's our duty as Americans. Here they are: http://www.mikasa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Mikasa-Site/default/Search-Show?q=red+berries. I do believe that they will look lovely with my red placemats and napkins.

Have a great day!
