The White Stuff
I was supposed to join Hans in Garmisch today and stay through the weekend, possibly into the week. He's down in that area going to school, and since the military is paying for the room and Garmisch is one of our favorite places, we were looking forward to it.
However, it has been snowing here since yesterday and we now have between 6-9" of snow with more coming down. Hans said it snowed in the Alps, so I can't imagine that the conditions are much better there...so we will be staying home. As Hans said "I've been cut out of one car in my life and I don't intend to have that happen again". I feel the exact same way. Why take the chance? I feel certain we'll get to Garmisch again.
One of Hans' co-workers called me today to let me know that if I need anything, to just give them a call. They wanted to make sure that I had groceries and that the car started...it was very nice. I was certainly never taken care of like that while Hans was on the ship, that's for sure. I was trying to think of something that I could have them do, to help them feel helpful and useful, but the only thing that immediately came to mind was: send over a SEAL to watch the kids for a couple of hours?
We took a nice long nap after a late lunch, which is good because I still am not sleeping well. The doctor suggested that I maybe need to go up to Landstuhl and see a sleep specialist...I suppose one of those people who hook you up to a bunch of machines and observe your sleep through the night. I have a lot of trouble sleeping in public places, so I know that would be a disaster. I'm too afraid of people observing me with my mouth hanging open and probably drooling!
After our nap, I bundled everyone up in extra pants and socks (not before insisting that bathroom breaks were taken), put on my wellies and we all went out for a walk in the new snow. It was OK, except that Josiah insisted on bringing Thomas along and so we had to stop several times so that Thomas could plow the snow off a fence or something. I wanted them to run and frolic and catch snowflakes on their tongues, not dawdle with Thomas. But when do our kids ever do what we want them to? They still had fun and got very snow-covered and cold.
I expect good sleep from all parties tonight!
