Tidbits

Here are my tidbits...all the mish-mash that crowds my brain until I find a spare moment to sit down and get it all out:

  • Had the most expensive oil change ever yesterday at the German VW dealership. The service guy asked me if I had brought my own oil. My own oil? Huh? I was completely stumped until I came to pick it up and got the invoice. 117 Euro for oil. Oh. Holy. Sweet. Lord. That's about, what $170? For just the OIL. That didn't include the labor. Why oh why didn't I have Pete change the oil while he was here? Well, an expensive lesson was learned. I will only be taking my car to the VW dealership on the even mile check-ups (ie: 20,000, 30,000, 40,000) and taking it somewhere on base for the odd mile check-ups, which are really only oil changes.
  • Volkswagen has some really great vehicles here that don't make it over to America, so going to the dealership is always a good time. I can't get enough of looking at all the baby VWs and getting high off the new car odor. Oh, and VW is coming out with a minivan. No, not the microbus that I showed all of you awhile back. A real, live minivan based on the Dodge Caravan platform. It has 13 cupholders, three rows of seats, dual DVD players in the back rows, underfloor storage...and it comes in VW red. I'm sold. It's called Routan (roo-tan). Kind of a weird name that makes me think of Captain Kangaroo every time I say it.
  • Finished Sophie's Choice at bedtime and then couldn't sleep for a couple of hours. It was good, not great. Props to Mr. Styron for dragging it out as long as humanly possible before finally, finally revealing to us what Sophie's choice was. Actually, she had to make a few, but the major one...it was very major. For those of you that I discussed the book with, the choice is what I thought it was. Bottom line, a good book and a good story, even though the author could have cut half the crap and just gotten to the point. I don't see myself reading it again.
  • We're going to Legoland Deustchland tomorrow. It's over towards Munich, so we've gotten a hotel room in downtown Munich and are going to spend Saturday roaming around Munich. Maybe I will be lucky enough to see Eric Bana this time. Well, I can always hope.
  • Please pray that Legoland will be better than Disneyland. Pray hard. Thank you.

I think that's about it. I swear, there was something else. Oh yeah, Josiah is going to be fine. Thanks everyone for worrying about him...I probably should have just kept it to myself. His bloodwork came back "all normal". We will be going back to see his doctor on June 23rd. The doctor just wants to check to see if the bumps, knobs, whatever they are, have increased or decreased in size. We'll go from there. Why yes, dear readers, I will be sure to let you know what the doctor says.

Pictures and report from Legoland and Munich soon!

I'm so happy that you updated us on Josiah. I was one of the worried ones.

Have a great time in Legoland Deustchland. Also, enjoy the Glockenspiel!

I saw the movie Sophies Choice. Good, but a little long. I am glad Joe is fine.

This morning when you said you were going to Munich, I instantly had a picture of Eric Bana in my head (half naked and ripped like he was in "Troy", of course).
Then to see that you had the same thought after reading the blog...I am relieved to know we haven't lost our eerie identical mindset yet.

I haven't seen Troy. Don't see Munich. It's boring as hell except for Eric Bana.

It isn't eerie. It's just weird. But it's special because it's ours.

*chuckles*

It would not surprise you, methinks, to learn that I saw "Troy" in the theater.

Wasn't bad, actually; it wasn't GREAT, but it wasn't bad.
