My Non-Prague Weekend

Josiah with two German boys, at Burg Teck

Hiking up the hill

Well, two out of three ain't bad...

And did Hans get called at all by any of the aforementioned annoying military leaders this weekend?

NO.

So...I could have gone to Prague. Sigh.

Oh well. I still had a very pleasant weekend, though it involved dealing with a lot more crying and diapers than I had originally planned. Yesterday we did our usual weekend shopping jaunt to the PX, ate in the food court, let the kids tear around for awhile. Oh, and they finally got haircuts. Josiah was not too bad, but Annika was starting to look like a wookie. Poor curly girly.

On the way home, I decided that the time had come to stop at the piano store in Sindelfingen. I have been thinking about getting a piano for...ever. Josiah has recently expressed some interest in learning to play, which got piano-buying on my mind again. The PX had a Yamaha digital piano a few months ago and I hemmed and hawed. By the time I decided I should get it, it was gone. I could get another one, but it would involve a painful process of special ordering it from the States and having it sent over. Let's just say that I don't have a whole lot of faith in the staff at the PX to get 'er done.

So. I had passed the piano store in Sindelfingen any number of times, always meaning to stop. Why didn't I, you ask? Because I was always alone with the terrible twosome and had horrible visions of them running in there, pounding on the beautiful pianos, climbing on the benches and the closed lids of the concert grands. Your basic toddler chaos. Yesterday, I had Hans with me and I was sick (SICK) of thinking about it, so we went in and I came out the proud owner of a new Kawai digital piano.

Ah. Finally I can get that off my mind. I'll let you all know how the lessons go.

Today, we had lunch at McDonald's (what??? McDonald's...but you never eat there!) and then headed just outside of town to see Burg Teck. For those of you that have visited us, Burg Teck is the castle that you can see on top of a hill a few miles from the airport. We have been meaning to check it out for awhile....so today, we fired up Dora and off we went. We had to park the car below the castle and hike up (and up and up) a gravel road to the actual location of the building. Hans pushed Annika in the kinderwagen all the way up. Josiah walked the entire way...dragging on my arm like an anchor. I swear, one of my arms is longer than the other after this hike, but we made it. It was not quite as impressive close up...a lot smaller than I would have thought. Apparently, there is a group of people who live up there because there is housing and a restaurant. It wouldn't be a German venue if there wasn't bratwurst and beer. We found a little table, sat down and had our snack, then wandered around, admiring the view.

So, anyway. Not exactly Prague, but it was pleasant nonetheless. We'll save Prague for another day!

I'm glad you got to have an outing this weekend, afterall. It wasn't Prague, but how can you not have fun with your two angels? ^j^ ^j^

I know, perhaps they're not angels every minute - - but they're still very precious. Please hug them for me.

It looks like a good weekend. I worked and avoided the heat. Rare heatwave in Seattle.
