This 'n That

Yes, another installment of odd bits and pieces that don't quite make up for a satisfying blog.

  1. I am going to Prague next weekend.
  2. I decided this on a very complete whim.
  3. I am going all by myself!
  4. Do you all think that the kids will be OK without me for a weekend? I'll really only be gone one entire day.
  5. How does this work, you ask? Well, I get on the bus on Friday night at 11:45 p.m. and ride through the night, have breakfast in Prague, do an entire day of sightseeing in Prague, then spend an evening blissfully alone in Prague reading by a castle or river or something, pretending I'm Czech. Sunday, I'll have breakfast and do some more sightseeing, then in the afternoon, we board the bus and drive for hours and hours back to Stuttgart.
  6. Yes, that is very whirlwind, but it works perfectly with our schedule. No need to find a babysitter on a workday. I'm going to be wiped out on Monday morning, but we'll get by.

What else?

  1. I just took Josiah's blanket, his dear Titi to the post office and mailed it to my Gramma to repair. Titi has gotten so much love that her flannel backing got ripped. I called Gramma last night and talked with her about it, and this morning, I finally got Josiah to agree to send Titi to Minnesota for repairs. He's super-excited that she gets to fly on a plane! Please say a little prayer that the USPS doesn't lose Titi, OK?
  2. My conversation with Gramma was very interesting. We discussed her early days at school, in the one-room schoolhouse that was on her parents' farmland. We touched on her trips to Israel and Rome, and of course, that most important topic of Minnesota folk of a certain generation: the weather.
  3. Yesterday we went with Jen and the boys to Gamerdinger. The kids played in the play area, which is so neat and clean and wonderful and FREE!! They even have staff there to sit and do crafts with the kids. Germany is amazingly kid-friendly. Well, except for at certain times and places...and with certain generations.
  4. Gamerdinger is such a neat store. Yesterday, I bought the best thing...a hot water bottle that came with its own, beautiful, soft and fleecy cover. It was on sale for 5 Euro and I love it. I used it last night to keep my toes warm and can see using it almost every night for my back and neck. LOVE it.

And now, I'm going to go eat some instant noodles. Tschuss!

I hope you have a wonderful time in Prague! Take lots of pictures.

I'll be thinking of Titi. Think of the stories she'll have to tell when she returns to Josiah. Josiah, you're a brave boy.

Wow, Prague! All by your lonesome, childless too. I hope that you have a terrific time with the Czechs and see a lot of new things to add to your collection of sights seen. You must have talked mighty fast and convincingly to get Joe to send Titi on R&R to Great-Gramas' in Minnesota. Have fun and let us know how it was. Is this organized by the military?

The tour is through the USO.

Dad--call me when Gramma gets the Titi. I'm going to worry about it until then. I have a horrible fear that it will get lost in the mail!

And yes, I will take lots and lots of pictures. That's a promise.

One question was answered...that this is a tour. Sounds like a fantastic opportunity for you. Will you visit the Prague Castle? Enjoy!

Dear Heidi,

If you want to escape, do it NOW.

Have a fantastic time in Prague, Rachel! I'm certain you'll be able to Czech out the local scenery *snorts*!

More seriously, though, you've said you're jealous of my trips??? You're going to PRAGUE! That's amazing! Sooooo much history there; just don't throw anyone out of any windows, okay?

But then, you're much too Prague-matic for that. Har! Oh, I kill me sometimes.

Andrew, Hans wanted me to tell you that you should quit whining about going to Prague when you can go to NEW Prague any time.

Surely it's better, right?

You tell that husband of yours that I *am*, after all, a historian, and we do have SOME standards.

Besides, they're not even pronounced the same (yet another way to tell Minnesotans from the rest of the US!).
