Happy Thanksgiving!
We have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, namely that we survived our flights. Let's just say that one member of our party was not entirely happy to be confined to a plane. From Newark halfway to Minnesota, she screamed and fought me like a wild mustang under the lasso. Seriously, I felt like I could enter the calf-roping contest at a rodeo. The whole episode probably lasted about 10 minutes, but felt like eternity. Finally, she exhausted herself and fell into such a deep sleep that I had to keep checking to make sure she was still breathing.
And, as always, the part that I appreciate the most about Annika's fit on the plane is the fact that people feel the need to turn around and stare. I mean, OK, have a quick glance at the demon-possessed child in the 19th row (and her red-faced, sweating mother), then for the love of God, just turn around and mind your own business the best you can. Hello. I realize that it's loud and grating and I'm doing my best to quiet her and calm her. You staring at us just doesn't do any good.
That being said, as I walked to the back of the plane to use the restroom, a lady stopped me and said "You had a very fussy baby there, and I just wanted to let you know that you did a really good job!" I almost crawled into her nice lap and cried on her shoulder for awhile. The gentleman sitting behind us during the flight complimented us on how we handled the situation, too.
I'm thinking of getting some Valium from my physician for the flight to Germany.
So far, our trip has been great. The hotel is fabulous. We got to celebrate Peder and Sarah's birthdays on Tuesday night with a great dinner at TGI Friday's. I had the biggest margarita available on the menu. Yesterday we visited Grandma's office again. I doubt that her poor co-workers got any work done while we were there. I think Josiah and Annika, in addition to being completely off their schedules, are feeling the love of wide open spaces after being cooped up for so long. Yesterday evening, Donna and I took the kids to the Dayton's 8th floor Christmas show-thing. What is the proper terminology? I'm not sure. It's a very lovely display of scenes from The Nutcracker. The kids loved it.
Then, Josiah got to see Santa. Boy was he excited! Annika, not so much.
OK, I've got to runnnnnnn....heading to Rochester for Thanksgiving. Hope you all have a great and safe day!!
I'm thankful for all of my readers :) All 15 of you!

I am sure that you have more than 15 readers out here, if not they are missing out on some good writing. The Depot was extra nice and the company was nicer. We are trying to rest up from two trips in two days and chasing four kiddos around a hotel room for a couple hours the other night. I hope that all of the flying in the next days goes better than the flight home. Take care.
Despite the two name changes, this time of year, the locals just refer to it as Dayton's 8th floor.
As a kid, didn't go every year, but I remember a few. mainly waiting in a line that wound up a stairway. My favorite was the year they did "The Polar Express" It was better than the movie.
