I Know, I Know
I haven't blogged for about seventeen years. Sorry about that. So many of you blog so regularly, and I know I miss you when you don't blog for a couple of days. I hope no one (besides Jan) missed me too much. I'll try to do better.
Where to begin? We have been busy. Hans has a paper due at school that has been taking up a lot of his free time. I've gotten spoiled over the last few months...having him leave at 8:00 a.m. and come home around 2:00. I'm going to get a big wake-up call when it's back to work as normal. Anyway, he's writing an enormous paper comparing American occupation of Japan to American occupation in Iraq. I hope he lets me read it. He has school until mid-June (I believe) and then he's pretty much free until school starts again in mid-August. We are busy planning some trips. Including...dum, dada dum (drum roll)...a trip for just US. We haven't decided just yet where we are going. Any suggestions?
Josiah started preschool on Tuesday. He was a little upset when I walked him into his new classroom, but one of the teachers from his old class was there and helped calm him down. She said that he was fine a few minutes after I left. He now goes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. He seems to be enjoying it. I wish that they did more structured activities...this place seems like more of a glorified daycare than anything else. I guess we'll try to find a better school at our next duty station. He has a good time socializing with his friends and teachers.
Annika is Annika. Hmmm, what's new with her? A couple of new teeth, the ability to climb stairs. She is totally fearless. I wonder if this is because she is the second child and therefore has been less "hovered" over than her brother. I take them to the park and before I can blink, she's climbed up the stairs and is headed face first down the biggest slide she can find! I think back to when Josiah was 15 months old...he certainly wasn't allowed to go on the bigger jungle gym or tall slides. But with Annika, I worry a lot less. Meh. I've been through all of this before and Josiah's survived thus far.
I wish that I had some sort of humorous anecdote to share with everyone, but I don't. We have just been living every day, enjoying the spring weather. Wow, is it beautiful in Newport...our neighborhood is full of daffodils and tulips. We have a flowering tree right outside our front door that's gorgeous. I looked out yesterday and there was a brilliant red cardinal sitting there (so I said "HI Henry!). This is the best time of the year, I think.

Secondly, I suggested to Hans that the two of you fly off to Bermuda. It's not that big in area, and you could get around in carriages or scooters. Imagine lounging on the pink sand. (ahh!)
Good luck to Hans on his paper and Josiah in his new preschool. I'm proud of ALL of you.
