This is 45

I think I need to get into it a little more to really FEEL it, but this is 45.  Middle of the road?  Maybe.  Both of my grandmothers made it past 90, so we shall see.

All of the most important people in my life wished me a happy birthday today, including the adorable people who made me and brought me into this world.  It is my habit now to thank THEM for my birthday, because let's be honest, if that man didn't love that woman, I wouldn't be here,  right now.  Thanks, guys...totally, 100% serious.

The Captain was out of town for my birthday weekend, he got back at supper tonight, unerringly arriving just in time to sit down and eat.  It's really OK.  I started out my weekend on Friday at my favorite shopping joint, then returned home, changed into sweatpants and settled in for some trash TV watching (in this case, the completely stupid "90 Day Fiancee" (don't get into it, it's like watching a car wreck that you could see coming miles away)).  Hans took the kids AWAY for supper, then returned with supper for me, which I ate in sweatpants on the couch with a nice glass of rose.

It was a long work day, sorrrrrry.  A day of what I thought would be two tasks turned into 20 and that's how life is with The Contractor.  He always says "Welcome to my life" when I roll my eyes upon finding out that I have to go BACK to the Home Depot that I was at 22 minutes ago to get one thing.  It was a good week though, a very good week overall and my little bathroom project is 49% complete (100% will be both bathrooms 100%).

Lest you think I was neglected by The Captain, I was given very fancy cupcakes from the Pentagon, along with some very nice flowers (he is good at choosing flowers--he knows never to bring me all roses, blergh) and of course, the obligatory card congratulating me on keeping my heart beating for another year and how amazing I am and how much he loves me.  You know...sweet stuff like that.  YOU stop tearing up.

Saturday was a lot of work around the house...the usual stuff that has to be done or the neighbors will call CPS.  I also got all 1,542 pieces of the kids' school supplies arranged by child and put into their respective backpacks, which are all lined up here in my office alongside the obligatory three boxes each of Kleenex.  Yeah, they come in four-packs, but I'll be damned if I'm giving that school THAT I PAY TUITION TO one extra box of anything.  Nope.  Oh, and guess what?  I forgot the freaking PROTRACTORS.  Ughhhhhhh.

School starts on Thursday, but who is counting the minutes?  I'm not that mother who feels sad that summer is over and her "babies" are going back to school.  I cannot wait for their little brains to become filled with facts instead of MarioKart.  I am going to be flying high on Thursday morning.  Well, until I drop them off and screech away...I'll probably cry a little, just because they're getting so grown up.  10th, 8th and 4th grades.  Sniffle.  Fine, a little sad.

Today was just a day...I really hadn't thought about it much until I was at Target buying my four bottles of wine and got carded (it's the LAW, guys, it's not because I think I look under 21, eye roll) and the lady said "Happy BIRTHDAY".  Oh yeah...my license does say that.  That was the nicest transaction at that Target ever.  And before you judge me too much, we had company tonight and I was buying wine for him.  Turns out, he didn't want wine, so...now I have enough wine for the whole week, hooray!

All is good.  Life is good.  The Captain is good.  Work is good.  The kids are good.  The house is good.  This is about as close to contentment as I can get and it's just as warm and fuzzy as I always dreamed it would be.

Anyway, this is 45, day 1.  Join me on the ride, why don't you?

Hmmm...my blog must be set to Japan time, because I see now that it's posting on 8/19 when it's clearly 8/18.

Seriously, they still use protractors? I thought that they went out with slide rules, although I still have one, and never did figure out how to operate it. It's great to read your usual top of the line description of life at the home in Burke. Keep up the good work.
