Northern Exposure

Did anyone else ever watch "Northern Exposure" back in the day? I think that I have mentioned before that the only channel that we really enjoyed in the Kuehl household was CBS (see prior posts about "Magnum, PI"). Anyway, I totally remember watching NE. It was a really groundbreaking show at the time...kind of different and kitschy. It had a new flavor. About a year ago, I saw that the first season is out on DVD and considered buying it, but talked myself out of it. Then, as I was flipping through the channels the other day, I came across a NE marathon on one of the HD channels. So, now I'm TiVo-ing it. Yay!

What strikes me as really funny though is the fact that I remember all of the character names and stories. My son needs a lead test done before he can go to school--I keep forgetting about that. But I remember all about Shelly and Holling. Sheesh!

So...I got the cold. Right now I am at the apex, the peak, the whatever of my cold medication and my last Coke. Meaning, I'm feeling almost normal, except for the Kleenex stuck up my nose. I'm taking lots of medication and drinking lots of Coke. It's the only way to stay on my feet!

It's a pretty nasty cold. I need to go on WebMD or something and find out how colds work. I mean, I know the basic premise: virus enters through one opening or another and goes to work. But where does all this snot come from? I am dead serious here folks. Does anyone know? I don't want to gross you all out with a measurement of the amount of snot that has exited my nose, but it is of a copious amount and I'm seriously wondering where it gets made and/or stored. Percolated. Seriously. Because I no sooner blow it all out and think it should be emptied when another noseful occurs.

Does anyone know? Gen? Seriously.

The kids are doing better, thank heavens. They are pretty much back to normal, tearing around the house...

OH MY GOD...I totally forgot to tell you all that Annika took her first steps last night!! Here I am, going on and on about mucus when something really important and earth shattering happened. It was three little steps. Heartbreaking and happy at the same time. Last night when I put her to bed, I whispered "The first steps in the journey of your life, baby". It really is monumental, when you think of it.

...but their little noses are still pretty chapped and one of the two has been in a bearcat of a mood today. I'm talking full-on tantrum with Thomas privileges revoked. Bless them, they are taking really long naps today. Just when I needed it the most. Hans always says that God gives us what we can handle and frankly, I couldn't handle them underfoot all afternoon. Thank you Lord!

Other news, not much. We have been housebound this week, suffering through the colds. Josiah was supposed to have playgroup at the Y on Tuesday, but it didn't get done. I hate it when other mommies bring obviously sick kids out in public...um, excuse me, I really don't want your kid to give my kid whatever plague he's carrying! We have been doing a lot of TV watching, book reading, coloring and computer time. Hopefully next week will be a little more exciting!

Oh, and our tenants are interested in buying our house! How's that for a stroke of luck?

I am sick too. Mine isn't the snot kind, but the stomach bug. I am enjoying the couch and computer today! I have heard about how snot happens.. I don't remember though. Good luck on the house sale! Hope you are all back to normal soon!

Congratulations, Annika! I knew it would happen pretty soon. What an exciting event. [Watch out now, Josiah!]

It seems I'm the only one who has stayed away from the dreaded cold. Perhaps the meds I took for my spills kept the "culprit" away. I hope I haven't spoken too soon.

I too hope the folks leasing your San Diego home want to buy it from you. After all, it would be so easy for them - they already know how everything works! I'll be praying the sale (and price) are agreeable.

Take care. Drink lots of water and juice. Ask Hans. . . water helps flush everything out!

At least you are nearing the end of this bout.
I too have been cold free
::almost destroying the desk as I knock on wood::

I credit my years of being exposed to everything under the sun thanks to all of those sick chldren who were sent to school anyway. Bless ou for not bringing Joe out. After working at the toy store, I will have a hard time letting my kids play with the trains, or anything else they have set out. Virus city.

I will say that through my informal research, I have discovered that the adults I know who had strep all the time as kids (like me) never get it now. The ones who didn't seem to get every other week.

I hope you all are feeling 100% amazingly soon, and the house sale goes smoothly. I never want to have renters either.
