At the HOP!

Josiah & Clara - he's twirling her!

Annika & Garrett

A very happy almost 6-year-old

Friday marked our third (and hopefully final) annual Sock Hop at Patch Elementary School. We went in 2008 with Jen, Carson & Nicholas. We went in 2009 with Angela, Nathan & Noah. This was the first year that we actually have a student attending Patch Elementary, so that made it even more fun, since Josiah's friends, classmates and girlfriends were all there!
When I picked him up from school on Friday afternoon, he was with his friend Clara. They declared they would be dancing together at the sock hop. I asked him if he was planning on dancing with anyone else: "No, I just want to dance with Clara". When we got home, he kept going on and on about the Sock Hop. He insisted on getting his hair spiked because he thought Clara would like it. When we finally got to the school, he disappeared while we were standing in line for our hot dog supper. Hans had to go off looking for him and found him sitting with Clara. After supper, he had to wait through all the hula hoop contests--he was getting pretty impatient--and then finally it was time to dance. He shot right over to where Clara was sitting and twirled her out onto the dance floor.
I know he's only six, but it's so strange to contemplate the fact that my little baby will date girls someday...maybe not that far in the future. Eeek! All I can say is that they had better be as sweet as Clara!
Meanwhile, Annika's friend Garrett from preschool showed up and immediately claimed Annika for all of the dances. Hand in hand, they whirled and twirled to the music, giggling and when they got tired, they sat down next to each other in one chair and Garrett put his arm around her and even put his little hand on her face. Double eeek!
It was the cutest thing, just so surreal. Someday there really will be a Clara and a Garrett and another sweet girl for William, won't there?

What a wonderful post! I loved seeing all the pictures and hearing how the evening played out. It's so fun to know they are enjoying being with friends. You're doing a great parenting job, Rachel and Hans!

I would hope that the boys will be searching for a girl as sweet as their own Mom, and Annika as good as her Dad. If they do that their future happiness will be assured. Try not to get too worried, those kiddos' have good examples to work from. Good luck though.

So, let's see...girls do NOT have cooties in Josiah's world *and* he's already learning how to dance in a (insert typical Andrew-as-Sam-the-American-Eagle tone here) civilized and decent manner...as a lead, no less! I see Annika is shaping up to cut a rug as well!

Must be Rachel's influence. Hans' taste in music can be...questionable when it comes to dancing in this fashion. ;]
