Red Door
House news. No pictures, of course...maybe I'll drive by today and shoot a couple, but don't hold me to that. My attention span is a little short right...
SQUIRREL!
now. Sorry.
The most wonderful house news is that the contractors have scheduled the final inspection for April 22nd!
So, in other words, all those horrific nightmares I had of us trying to move out of this house, move into that house, cleaning up this house AND have closing on 4/30 were just that...my vivid and severely worrisome and pessimistic imagination.
Our moving truck will be here on 4/29. It's a one day affair to load, drive 1.5 miles to the new house and unload. It's not the shortest move I've ever done, but it will be easier than our shortest recorded land move (Stuttgart: Patch Barracks apartment block to apartment block).
I'm hoping that we can close by 4/26, so keep on keeping your fingers and toes crossed and saying prayers, because those three days to finish up packing are a godsend.
Pete and Jan are going to load up and be here on 4/28, so I'll have an additional two bodies to help me maintain my sanity by helping me pack last minute boxes, corral children, watch over movers, pick up and drop off children at school, pack lunches, clean, hang stuff up, etc., etc. They are pretty cheap labor: all they require is a bed, three showers a day, food (and it doesn't have to be fancy) and a few beers.
Anyhoo...about the house. We are not allowed inside this week, it is strictly verboten due to the fact that they are refinishing the wood floors all week. I am trying to patiently wait until Sunday, when we can maybe go take a peek. They are working on the exterior in the meantime, so yesterday when we drove past, they had painted all the window and exterior trim in my Basque Green and had one coat of Stolen Kiss on the front door. They had painted the entire garage (BONUS! I didn't think they'd do that) and were working to repair all the rotted wood on the front porch.
As of now, they still need to re-lay the front walk and the sun porch floors, lay carpet on the third floor, finish the quarter-round trim work along the floor that had to wait until refinishing. The countertops are due to arrive on 4/17 and of course, there will be a punchlist of little items that need to be touched up.
Ordered the last of our window treatments last week...
Got a quote to install a fence in the backyard...
My mind is flooded with ideas for "home improvements" already...gah!! Just little touches here and there, the addition of storage shelves in the laundry room, glass tile in the kitchen, a contrasting paint color under the chair rail in the dining room. Trust me, I'm trying to put these ideas on the back burner.
OK, kind of a dull post, but that's the news.
OH, forgot: it's 100 degrees here an I'm only exaggerating by 10 degrees. I know, I know...you all feel SO sorry for us. But it kind of sucks to go from cool spring weather directly into the sweaty armpit of hell that is summer in the south. I would have preferred a little more lead up into hot weather.
That is all.
