Thanksgiving 2012
Home sweet home (for now...)
Turkey tealights and my plucked from the front/backyard bouquet

Happy Thanksgiving to our friends and family around the world! I trust that everyone ate until their buttons strained, had that second piece of pie and then dozed while watching football. And then got up and went Black Friday shopping.
Fact: I did not know that Black Friday is called Black Friday because it's the only day that merchants are "in the black" versus in the red. I'm not sure that I believe that anyway. Are you telling me that Target is running at a loss the other 364 days of the year? That can't possibly be true.
Fact: I won't even make you laugh by telling you why I thought it was called Black Friday...
We had the traditional dinner of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, veggie and rolls. The kids did not like 98% of the food we set in front of them, not surprisingly. They filled up on rolls. And each had one piece of turkey that they transferred into their cheeks and chewed...and chewed....and chewed. Elsa got all the leftover gravy and stuffing, so she had an awesome Thanksgiving. It's lucky she received a full pardon from the slipper/book chewing earlier in the week and so was able to partake of our leftovers.
We did talk about the Mayflower and the Pilgrims and Squanto, etc. as well as offering up a prayer and taking turns around the table to tell what we are thankful for. Answers were fairly typical for this demographic, but after dinner, I mentally added thanksgiving for roast-in-the-bag turkey breasts (no roasting pan to scrub! no turkey to baste! no leftover dark meat!), dishwashers and non-stick pans. Giving thanks should not be confined to one day and/or the obvious things...dig deep people, we can find lots of little things to be thankful for!
We rounded out the afternoon and evening by watching "It's Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown!". The kids love the part where Snoopy and Woodstock make lunch--my favorite part also. We are thinking of hosting Thanksgiving one year a la Peanuts, with a ping-pong table in the backyard, mismatched chairs and a lunch of buttered toast, popcorn, pretzel sticks and jellybeans.
Anyway, I think the kids would like that meal better...!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
PS: The photos of the house and the kids playing are from earlier in the week. Temps have been pleasant in the afternoons and our backyard is sort of ruined by the dog, so front yard play has taken over. We are getting to know more of our neighbors and there's no worry about people tracking dog poo into the house, so...yay!
