It's Been Awhile...

It's been awhile since I sat down and wrote. Let's have some bullet points, OK?

  • We just got back from buying a new Tempur-Pedic bed and it is beyond awesome. The mattress we currently have is nice, but it is getting up there, age-wise. Mattresses must age like dogs or something. Anyway, I was having a lot of lower back pain every morning. We tried flipping it and rotating it and every other thing we could think of to extend its life just a little longer, to no avail. I am telling you, the first time I lay down on the Tempur-Pedic, I literally felt stress leaving my body...no joke. Tension in my shoulders, etc. They are going to deliver it sometime today and then our pretty dang nice (but elderly) mattress is moving to Annika's room, where it will replace the mattress I bought in 1993 for $300. Yay for our guests! You may have to sleep under the pink canopy but at least the bed will be nicer!

  • This past week was insanely busy for me, but in a good way. At no point did I feel like I was going to lose my mind with stress. It was all really, really good-type busy. Monday at the zoo with Patty and her youngest and just Will. We ladies actually got to have a semi-decent, coherent conversation with each other over our crappy zoo food lunch. And the animals were all up to their best shenanigans.

  • Tuesday was Hans' frocking. For those of you less-Navy savvy, frocking means that he gets to "wear" the rank of commander and be addressed as such and sign his correspondence as such and spend $2,851 restriping and reaccessorizing and buying a fancier hat. Because the Navy is so cash-strapped, Hans doesn't actually get PAID as a commander for another year! Thanks Navy! This reminds me of working at Schwickert's, where very often I would get additional duties and a new title, but not any actual pay to reflect such. Hans did get a fancy new hat though...honestly, I don't think he cares that much. And now I am the wife of a commander and my friends and family may recieve notes on my fawncy new stationery emblazoned "CDR & Mrs. Hans De For"...missives written with pinky out, of course!

  • In case you missed the Facebook video, Will was the belle of the ball at the frocking. He also behaved himself impeccably while we lunched with the CO and his wife afterwards.

  • School for the older two is going fine. Annika is having some trouble with boys bothering her...I guess she'd better just get used to it. Josiah is a little bored...big surprise there. But they are both still eager to get up and get going. Josiah leaves around 7:15 and Annika leaves around 10:15 and they both get back at 2:45.

  • Yes, I am enjoying my Josiah and Annika-free time. William and I are working on colors. I think he's got red down, now we're moving on to blue.

  • Speaking of Will--dang, he's going to be two, TWO here in about a month!

  • Hans and I are attending the Navy Ball this year. I am beyond ecstatic at the idea of a fawncy night out. I've had this amazing dress that I bought on final sale at J Crew for about $50--been wanting to wear it forever and now's my chance. I've got hair and makeup set up and found some accessories this weekend. I'm dying my wedding shoes to wear. I know some of you think I'm a crazy spendthrift, but the truth is that I can squeeze a penny with the best of you! So far, I've spent $23 on my ensemble. I don't really count the dress since I've had it for four years!

  • Cooler weather in the Chesapeake area, thank God. It was 90 on Thursday, then on Friday, it didn't get up to 70! I have been getting everyone's clothes turned around, getting out the new fall clothes. Pretty dull for Josiah. Exciting for Annika because I love her clothes. Reminiscent for William, because a lot of his things are Josiah's and bring back memories. Sad, because now it's time to pack up Will's little summer things. Sigh.

  • I am reading "The Killer Angels" right now...Michael Shaara. It's very digestible, for a blow-by-blow battle account of Gettysburg. I like it.

Gotta go, the mattress people are coming with our new bed and I've got to scramble around and get bedding off our bed, Annika's bed, move our old mattress...you get the picture.

Enjoy your week!!
