Oh, the number of pictures I could post here of Josiah and his seven years on earth, but I'll settle (and I hope you will too) for a few from his very first days with us. I was thinking this morning about what an amazing kid he is...he was easy from the start, just a happy, easy-going baby who became a happy, easy-going toddler. He was so easy that he fooled me into believing I was ready for Annika a mere 21 months later! Well, to be fair to Annika, she was a very easy baby too with the exception of a little colicky-ness for a couple of weeks...

My children are so special to me, but Josiah has that extra hold on my heart as my firstborn. Having him in my arms and in my life made everything complete. I remember those early days and months quite clearly. Hans was gone a lot with the ship or working long hours and so most days it was just Josiah and me. He was more than my child, he was a companion and a little friend, someone to talk to when I got lonely, so far from home. Still adjusting to the Navy life.

Every stage of his life has been filled with moments of speechless wonder for us. He continues to amaze us with his love of learning and his capacity for memorization. He still loves his maps and has recently been spending time making maps of countries with their individual states, cantons, counties, provinces, etc. If anyone out there wants to know what China's northwesternmost province is, call us...Josiah can get that info for you. Who needs Google Earth?

Right now, he's downstairs pursuing his other passion: Super Mario Brothers. He's on Level 8, about to obliterate the ultimate bad guy and get the princess. Quite an accomplishment (especially as his video-gaming Dad hasn't made it to the end)...next he'll be moving on to Mario Kart and 25th Anniversary Mario Brothers--gifts for his birthday today. He is amazing when he's playing...obviously, a talent inherited from his father.

Tomorrow we're going to head over to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg for the day. We were meant to go today, but I just happened to check their schedule and discover (thank God) that they are open Friday-Monday during May.

Happy 7th Birthday Josiah--we love you, you amazing, happy, brilliant, handsome boy! Many more Happy Birthdays!
