Me and the crew at the top
My boys
At the top of the observation tower (good views on a clear day, I'm guessing)
After they came down, Hans informed me that the wooden steps seemed kind of "unstable"...I guess sometimes the less you know, the better.

Well of
course, the band marched UP the obeservation tower and back down, playing all the while (some good German hymns in there, too)...they're hardcore! I wonder how many beers they had had before doing that!

We were definitely an anomaly, but a nice family only gave us a curious GLoD and then let us sit with them at their table. For ONCE Josiah and/or Annika didn't tip over the beer table bench! Truly a miracle.

I should have put a quarter in this picture as a size reference--these snails were monstrous! I kind of like this picture though...

Speaking of monstrous--that's a slug in the middle of the picture, that black thing. They were easily 3-4" long. Annika caught sight of one and spent the rest of the hike alternately crying and screaming about the slugs...like they were going to suddenly jump up and start eating her face or something! Oh, the drama...

This was before she saw slugs...
We trekked the Lemberg yesterday--one of 10 - 1,000 metre tall hills in the Swabian Albs. It was a nice little walk, except for the little girl terrified of slugs! Strangely, we kept hearing music wafting down from the top...sure enough, we emerged from the trail to find a band and biergarten at the top of the Lemberg. The Germans will use any excuse to drink beer, sing and listen to Who Shot John! Hans and I got a Coke and we sat and listened...at one point, the band got up and marched up the 30' observation tower, playing all the way, played a couple of songs up top and then marched back down, playing all the way. I find it fascinating how we seem to stumble upon these odd little celebrations!
