Dribbly

Things are getting a little drooly around here...we can confirm the imminent arrival of Will's bottom two teeth. It looks like they're both coming in at the same time. As a result, he is in an almost constant state of swampishness. I keep changing his clothes and his bib, but somehow, he soaks through. He seems to have an abundance of both drool and spit-up right now...yesterday and today I have had to change shirts due to him spitting up all over them. Today, he somehow spit up down the cuff of my shirt.

But mommies, you know nothing is better than having a baby spit up down the neck of your shirt. Right?

So, it's Sunday and I'm a single parent for the week. Hans is...gone. We'll have to leave it at that because I'm not sure he wants me advertising his location. He's secretive like that. If all goes well, I'll post more about this trip at the end of the week. If it doesn't go well, we'll just go on with life as usual.

Yesterday we went to Wilhelma Zoo in downtown Stuttgart. This has to be our sixth trip there, but it's been awhile. The last time we went was right after Hans got home from Afghanistan last year, which incidentally, I was reading my blog from last year at this time and it had been just a week since he left for Kabul. Those were some good times. Not.

Anyway, I thought we should plan some kind of excursion since Hans would be leaving this morning and as a result, we'd be merely surviving until he got home. No fun stuff. Just eating, going to school and subsisting. In a way, I'm kind of lucky that Hans does go away--it makes me appreciate just what an integral part of Team D4 he is (I mean that, Kitten!). So we loaded up and went to the zoo. I'm so glad we did because it was beautiful out, sunny and almost 60. It was pretty crowded, but not insane and everyone had a good time. Well, Will slept almost the entire time, but everyone else had fun.

It is crazily windy here today, though the sun is out and it's warm again...so we've spent the day inside except for our quick run to take Hans to the airport. Will slept from 11:00-4:00. The other two built a huge track in the living room and played trains and now they're watching "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" for the 19th time. Total, not this week. We're not that bad!

On the school front, Annika had a great week discussing the letter "L" and apparently astonished her very sweet young teacher by reading such words as "olive". Josiah took part in the kindergarten spelling bee and won a ribbon for being one of the top five kindergarten spellers in the school. I am blessed to have a couple of little readers and spellers!

That's the semi-dull news from Stuttgart. Only 10 more days until Genevieve gets here!

Wow, I get to beat Donna to your comments once again! It will be interesting to find out what Hans is up to and where he is up to some time. And 60, what does that actually feel like? I think it was 25 yesterday, one of the warmest days recently. We used to get to the zoo in Sioux Falls on occasion years ago did we not? I wonder why kids drool so much when they are cutting teeth, just curious? Take care.

Okay, I'm happy to let Pete make the first comment. :-)

I don't think I've heard of any baby having a tooth so young. I'll be praying for you, Will. I hope it's not too hard on you - or you either, Rachel. It's a good thing you have your own washer and dryer.

Josiah, congratulations on the spelling bee! Wow! I'm very impressed. Good job, honey.

Annika, I'm so proud of you, too. Imagine reading a word such as "olive" at 4 years old. I'm amazed!

Hans, where ever you are, I wish you Godspeed - as always.

Rachel, I wish I was close by so I could help out in times such as these. I'm glad you thought of going to the zoo and that you have good weather. Take care!

Oh, Wilzer, it'll be worth it all. And it doesn't surprise me at all about Joe and Annie's accomplishments. Rach, you're a natural born teacher. Hope your week goes well AND fast! Take care and batten down the hatches.
Your dad wrote Sioux Falls, we are going there in June. We are also going back to the Omaha zoo on our way up...Mt. Rushmoore is on the agenda too. Are you using any tylenol or orajel or anything...drool drool drool all over you. At least you don't hae pet hair to add on top of that, what if you still had a German shep.?! We haven't had weather warmer then the 30s here, CA will seem hot for us.

Rachel.. We were going through some old books tonight and I opened a notebook and on the top of the page it said "miss Kuehl".I am sure that this was when you were instructing your siblings a couple of years ago. You are a natural teacher.

Rachel, I'm still amazed at how you handle being a "single parent". I'm thinking of you this week and wishing you lots of crabby-free children and dry clothes for everyone!
