Guten Tag, Heidelberg!
So, here we are in Heidelberg. Wheee, a whole different set of barracks! No, actually, this community, Patrick Henry Village, is pretty nice. They have the best park I have ever seen on a base...seriously, I wish I would have brought my camera. It's all tubes and tunnels and slides. It looks like one of those dealies that hamsters play in. I'm going to take my hamsters over there tomorrow and let them tunnel around. Pray that I don't lose them in there because I'm very claustrophobic.
The nice people (damn, why do they have to be so nice?) came at 4:30 and drove the station wagon. They were so darn nice. They asked me lots of intelligent questions about the car, all of which I think I answered succinctly. They drove for almost an hour...I think they like it. Hans made me promise to mention the fact that the first party was possibly still interested. I don't think I'd make it in sales...I don't have the nerve for it.
My friend from the bank called me this morning...she said that her manager has a call in to the home office to ask about this "chain of ownership" situation, but not to expect an answer until probably Monday. Shoot. She did mention that the branch bank cannot override the Patch bank's decisions. So I'm not sure that anything will come of it, but you know, I'd be happy if she found it was a big load of bull. I will feel vindicated. If not, meh, whatever. I'm just glad that it has been brought to someone's attention.
So, I called the first people and left a message, just to tell them that the bank was at least checking into it for us and to try this bank that Mr. Heidelberg is using. She called just as I was leaving for Heidelberg, so I let the machine pick up. What a game this all is. Should I let Mr. Heidelberg have it if he calls tomorrow and says he can have the check by Tuesday? Or should I hold out and see if Couple #1 (and the bank) come through? Ugh. Someone is going to end up disappointed. I just know it.
This is where having the thick skin of a car salesman would come in handy.
Unlike my husband, I didn't hit 152 mph on the way up here.

Have a great weekend. The car thing will all work out - not to worry.
Yes, I don't think you'll have to worry about becoming a car salesperson. You are way too kind, patient, and honest.
Hans, if we ever come back to Germany, I want a ride on the autobahn in your Audi at that speed or faster...
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that it feels natural now to be driving, as I did, about 110 mph home from Heidelberg to Stuttgart.
