Guten Tag, Heidelberg!

So, here we are in Heidelberg. Wheee, a whole different set of barracks! No, actually, this community, Patrick Henry Village, is pretty nice. They have the best park I have ever seen on a base...seriously, I wish I would have brought my camera. It's all tubes and tunnels and slides. It looks like one of those dealies that hamsters play in. I'm going to take my hamsters over there tomorrow and let them tunnel around. Pray that I don't lose them in there because I'm very claustrophobic.

The nice people (damn, why do they have to be so nice?) came at 4:30 and drove the station wagon. They were so darn nice. They asked me lots of intelligent questions about the car, all of which I think I answered succinctly. They drove for almost an hour...I think they like it. Hans made me promise to mention the fact that the first party was possibly still interested. I don't think I'd make it in sales...I don't have the nerve for it.

My friend from the bank called me this morning...she said that her manager has a call in to the home office to ask about this "chain of ownership" situation, but not to expect an answer until probably Monday. Shoot. She did mention that the branch bank cannot override the Patch bank's decisions. So I'm not sure that anything will come of it, but you know, I'd be happy if she found it was a big load of bull. I will feel vindicated. If not, meh, whatever. I'm just glad that it has been brought to someone's attention.

So, I called the first people and left a message, just to tell them that the bank was at least checking into it for us and to try this bank that Mr. Heidelberg is using. She called just as I was leaving for Heidelberg, so I let the machine pick up. What a game this all is. Should I let Mr. Heidelberg have it if he calls tomorrow and says he can have the check by Tuesday? Or should I hold out and see if Couple #1 (and the bank) come through? Ugh. Someone is going to end up disappointed. I just know it.

This is where having the thick skin of a car salesman would come in handy.

Unlike my husband, I didn't hit 152 mph on the way up here.

What! 152 mph! Hasn't he learned anything?! Oh, well. God be with him, and also with you.

Have a great weekend. The car thing will all work out - not to worry.
That playground is awesome, every time we went up we went to it...then the kids can go potty at BK and we would bring a lunch. What is wrong with Patch...they need a play ground like that. I actually made an ice complaint that Patch needed one like Heidelberg...I didn't get anywhere with it of course.

152 mph, wow, I assume that he has really, really good rubber on that Audi. The`cap is this, I imagine he is getting mileage for this trip. Personnally I have not spent much time above 130, although I do have the urge sometimes to see what one of my crotch rockets will do.

Oh, it's SO good to have you blogging again. I love your referral to your little hamsters tunneling around...
Yes, I don't think you'll have to worry about becoming a car salesperson. You are way too kind, patient, and honest.
Hans, if we ever come back to Germany, I want a ride on the autobahn in your Audi at that speed or faster...

Jan, while you ride with Hans, I'll take the kids shopping! When I was last on the Autobahn with Hans, at times he was driving 130 mph!

Like I told Gen, one gets used to the speed and the roads are much wider (well, Autobahn, anyway) and better quality than in Minnesota. The drivers are better. They don't sit in the left-hand lane. Except people from the Netherlands!

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that it feels natural now to be driving, as I did, about 110 mph home from Heidelberg to Stuttgart.

Bear in mind, Rachel, the autobahn, like so many German engineering marvels, was originally designed to invade Poland. Being able to drive at speeds invoking the Doppler shift is just a side effect; I'm certain that, had the US decided in the 1930s that we needed to corner the world's supply of maple syrup and moose, we'd have built something similar to invade Canada.

In my opinion, Canada is just up there asking for it.
