The Gospel According to Yo Gabba Gabba

Have any of you parents out there watched "Yo Gabba Gabba" yet?

It's on Nickelodeon. Check it out. It reminds me of some of the horrible, campy children's dreck that we watched in Japan. It's so awful you will laugh your heads off.

Josiah and Annika love it. We have several episodes on our TiVO. They have seen the great inaugural episode, entitled "Eat" about 781 times.

Here are some lyrics from one of the songs, charmingly illustrated in a very 1970s-ish way:

Kitty is my friend
Puppy is my friend
Giraffe is my friend
So I'll be nice to them

Other friends include eagles and lobsters, excuse me, but I don't think I want my kids fraternizing with anything that has talons or big pinchy claws. Lobsters are for eating, not taking to the playground or having deep conversations about Polly Pockets with. I know that my children think eagles are nice and friendly because Grandma and Grandpa have pictures of them all over their kitchen walls, but hello...they are raptors.

The funniest thing is how Josiah loves this show so much that he's decided to spread the word. There's a section in the "Eat" episode where one of the characters doesn't want to try a new food, so all the other characters make up a little song: "Try it...you'll like it". Repeated ad nauseum to a beat that sounds like the background sounds to my Grandma Thielhorn's Wurlitzer organ.

Josiah will tell anyone on the street about "YGG" and yesterday when the three of us were lunching at Panera, he overheard a fellow toddler complaining about eating something he didn't think he'd like. Josiah stood up on his chair and started rapping to him "Try it...you'll like it".

Oookkkaayyy! Maybe Joe's going to be an evangelist!
That is exactly like his Josiah's Uncle Peder was when he was that same age.
I remember going to a restaurant and someone behind us said a bad word and Peder turned around and told them they should go to church and learn not to talk that way.
