Last Post From Crosswood Lane...
One last post from Crosswood Lane. It's almost 8:00 in the morning. Josiah isn't going to school again today--this is the third day of a not-too-incapcitating fever, but a fever nonetheless. I'm afraid that he's going to miss his last day of school, but since I don't have control over that, I'm just going to see what tomorrow brings.
He and Annika don't seem to be overly sad that they're leaving school and their friends behind. Maybe they're still a little young to grasp the concept that we aren't coming back. Or maybe they are truly that flexible and resilient, ready for a new adventure.
It doesn't matter what place we leave, the last couple of weeks are always a little surreal. We're moving half an hour from Chesapeake, but it still means leaving behind this little corner of the world in which we've lived, loved, laughed, fought and made memories. No matter how many times we do it and whether it's up the road or across the world, it's still difficult to walk through the empty, echoing rooms and turn the key in the lock for the last time.
I wonder what Will is going to think. This will be the first of our moves that he will be aware of. I hope that, like his brother and sister, he will be excited to have a new room and a new backyard. A routine filled with new errands and new stores. New things to look at from his backseat vantage point.
I thank God that our children are still young and more easily transplantable. I cannot imagine making even this small move with middle or high-schoolers, though we know plenty of military families who do just that.
Tonight is our last night in this house, then we move up to the Navy Lodge in Norfolk for 17 days. We should be into our new home on 7/1: 1109 Brunswick Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23508.
Erase our address in your address books once again and pencil the new in. Always use pencil with us!
Farewell from Crosswood Lane!

I'm sorry Josiah isn't feeling well. Please tell him I'm thinking about him and hope his temp breaks even yet this morning.
