One of those moments that I wish would never end...
The touchy-feely pool
Hi...
Life has been fairly uneventful lately, thus the lack of posts. Sorry about that. Or, maybe I shouldn't be sorry, per se, but glad that there is no crazy news to share. Life is just normal. Or abnormal...what is the norm? A topic discussed frequently in the Kuehl household.
Josiah was sick with some sort of flu virus the week before last. He had a chicken pox vaccine on the Tuesday after Annika's birthday and early the next morning (ie: 3:00 a.m.) he came downstairs, crawled into bed with us and promptly threw up. He ran a fever off and on for about five days. I took him to the emergency room in Newport on Thursday night because he had been throwing up and feverish for two days and his fever was up to 103.7. The doctor told me not to worry (what, not worry, me?) about it, that it was a virus making the rounds, but they did put an IV in (to Joe, not me) and pumped him full of fluid. No drugs were prescribed save the old duo of Motrin and Tylenol, altnerately every four and six hours. As long as we kept up the regimen, he was fever-free and his normal, cheery self.
Finally, after three days of Motrin and Tylenol, we decided to let him go cold turkey and see what happened and lo! The fever did not return and all has been happy and joyful in Josiahland since.
We had to miss a lot the week he was sick. We didn't make our weekly trip to the library to pick out books and play with the kids leaving story hour (story hour being wildly popular and already completely full with a waitlist). Josiah had to miss school, though his teacher was kind enough to offer to let him come in later in the week to make up his day. We weren't able to go to gym at the YMCA, which is fun for all of us, and the menfolk missed church on Sunday. Annika and I went because I volunteered for nursery duty. It was just Annika and one other little guy who is two days older than her. He bit her. That was the excitement for the entire hour we were there.
Things were back on track this week. We went to gym on Tuesday and Thursday. Josiah went to school on Wednesday and had another stellar day. We got our cool new Kelty double jogger on Thursday and promptly took it for a long walk--it is so super-light and fun to push and the kids truly seem to love sitting next to each other.
Yesterday it was warm and beautiful out. We have compiled a list of places that we want to see while we're in New England, so we decided to make a start and ended up going to the Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Connecticut. Josiah was so excited to go, but once we got there, he developed a fear of sharks, rays and most of the other critters on display. No matter how many times Hans explained the the sharks couldn't penetrate the glass (though some had really big teeth), Josiah was afraid they would come right through and devour him. He did enjoy the penguins, the whale and the seals.
And I touched a crab. I hate crabs...ewwww. The thought of someone plunking down a whole, steamed lobster in front of me gives me goosebumps. But I touched a spider crab in the "touchy-feely" pond. And geez, it wasn't that bad. I still wouldn't want to meet one in a dark alley!

The little angels are so precious!!
The touchy feely pool is my FAVORITE! I too squeal when touching the gooey sea creatures, but it is so much fun.
