Bullets, because it's what's best when my mind is whirling in a hundred different directions (and I haven't blogged for two weeks):
- My parents left early this morning. Like, 4:20 a.m. early. They kept telling me they were leaving early and I kept reassuring them that we'd be up (because it's Saturday, and the kids are ALWAYS up early), but they were right. They usually are...
- Gen and Gus were here week before last, just for a few days, but we managed to pack a lot into a short space of time. It's definitely my turn to head to Minnesota now.
- A big "thank you" to everyone who came to see us in April--it's been quite a month!
- Hans is fine. Dealing with constant ridiculousness from the shipyard and the Navy in general. The ship is progressing slowly but surely and will hopefully be out of the yards soon. Hopefully.
- I am fine-ish. I had the worst, weirdest headache on Thursday. Mom wanted me to go see the doctor, but I decided to Google the pain instead and I'm pretty sure I nailed it. The headache is called an "icepick headache" and it's a type of headache I've had before, just in a much less severe fashion. It truly feels like someone is stabbing the back of your head with a sharp object at random, painful intervals. For some reason on Thursday, the random, painful intervals were every 5 seconds, very painful and lasted all day. I actually took to my bed like some Victorian heiress, grimacing and groaning with the curtains drawn. I've truly never had anything like it...I come from a family prone to migraines, so I'm thinking maybe it's just my turn to start getting them, but wow--that sucked. I felt wrung out yesterday.
- Josiah and Annika took Wednesday off from school. It's tricky explaining to your kids that you are calling them in "sick" when they aren't really sick. I should have planned better and just sent in a note...Grandma and Grandpa and I took them to Nauticus. We had such a fun time--there was no one else there and so the kids were able to roam the museum and play with all the exhibits while Grandma and Grandpa toured the USS WISCONSIN. Let's face it parents--sometimes it's fun to have the museum to yourself and not have to explain in a pseudo-cheerful voice that now it's "Someone else's turn to try the exhibit" and have to drag a screaming kid away from an activity. Or dodge 1,259 other kids, parents and strollers. I felt like Tom Cruise, closing down Disneyworld for the day for his kids. Okay, not exactly the same....
- William is 2-1/2. Pity me. And if you spend time with him, keep your guard up. He's cute, but he's got a mean right hook.
- So, we can't move into our new house until July 1st and we have to be out of this house on June 15th. We're going to have to live in a hotel for a couple of weeks, which is fine because we are only paying a half-month's rent here and still have our housing allowance in full for the month. It's doable, but we know we can't have professional movers in to pack us because their quote more than doubled when I called to tell them that we would have to store our things for two weeks before delivery. Now we're getting two PODs, I'm doing all the packing except the heavy stuff and then we'll hire a team to come in and do one day of loading and unloading. I am really fine with the packing, I just have to find a bunch of boxes...not as easy as you'd think. I ended up buying some to start us off and plan on starting in on winter things and filling up the garage prior to the POD arriving on 6/1. May will be the month of packing. I'm actually looking forward to two weeks in a hotel...I'll make sure we get a suite and find one with a pool.
