Sunday Afternoon

Willverine is napping, Josiah is illustrating yet another book and Annika is downstairs (finally!) playing with the neighbor girls. Oh, and Hans went to the PX to buy us each a Nerf gun, because earlier this morning we had a rowdy battle with our solitary Nerf gun and decided that it would be the most funnest ever if we each had a gun.

How much do you want to bet that Hans ends up with the biggest, badest Nerf gun? Hmmm, something about this seems to appeal to the little boy in him, strangely enough. Not that the little boy is that repressed or anything...

And who is Willverine? Well, he's like Wolverine, only he's Willverine because he's very fond of scratching with his adamantium claws. OK, just his fingernails, but he'll leave marks. Like Meg Griffin. Will is also very fond of pulling hair and pinching whatever skin he can grab on his unwitting victims, who are drawn to his adorable cuteness...

Hmm, so what else has been happening? We have no important news to share. That is all I have to say on that front. Keep keeping your fingers crossed.

Why didn't anyone tell me how great flatirons are? I bought one a long, long time ago, in Japan I think, but it is huge, seriously the plates are about 4" wide and I never figured out how to use it properly (which reminded me of the problems I had with my first curling iron, circa 1985...still sad that I never achieved the proper height/volume on my bangs) and Hans made a comment the one time I used it to what I thought was great effect. He didn't like my hair so straight. So I ditched it until a few weeks ago, when my new stylist cut my hair and used a nice little skinny flatiron with grand results. So...I bought a little one and have been using it and lo, it is amazing and my husband isn't complaining. So I think I'll keep it.

Speaking of hair, I tried a home remedy for green hair because you'll recall that my German stylists have been telling me my hair is green, most likely from minerals in the water. Here's the remedy: ketchup. Once a week, I put 1/4 cup of Heinz 57 in my hair and let it sit for about 10 minutes. It seems to be working and no, it doesn't smell too bad. There you go folks, your tip of the day!

Yesterday I went to the German dentist to get my crown put on. Herr Dr. Winkelmann has travelled the U.S. quite extensively and loves to chit-chat about the U.S. He has a big American clientele and even has a map of the States on the wall of his office with pushpins from the cities everyone's from. So I put my little pin in Mankato. Close enough.

Anyway, here's something I love about Germans. When you enter a waiting room full of them, they all look up and they all say "Gruss Gott", which is a Swabian greeting meaning "Greet God". Or they all look up and say "Morgen" or whatever time of day it is and when they come back in after their appointment to leave, they all say "Tschuss". I just think it is very friendly for a country of slightly dour people.

It took over four hours to get my crown done, ugh. First he had to grind down my root canal-ed tooth, which YUM, tastes so good...that taste of freshly shaved tooth. I'm thrilled that I didn't need any novocaine for it. After the grinding, they took an impression and sent me off to wait while they made the crown. Forty minutes later, he tried the crown on me and it didn't fit, so we took another impression, made another crown, sat for another forty minutes, then went back in for the latest model, which fit perfectly. Then he had to glaze it and color it so it matched my other teeth. Anyway, it's done now and I'm getting used to it because it's very smooth and doesn't feel like my other teeth. My tongue keeps heading over there to investigate.

That's all the news from this neck of the woods!

I'm impressed the dentist did the crown on site and it only took four hours. My last crown, after the impression, they put on a temporary crown and it takes about two weeks for permanent one to come back from the dental lab. Odd, how the tongue goes to that spot. Mine does too. Glad you are all together again.
Love your postings, you are too funny. Yep, can't stand that magazine either.
