Not much to report from this week at the De For household.
I have been looking for a job. I know that this happens to coincide with the posts about how much heat costs and how high our San Diego mortgage is, but I want to reassure you all that we are not going bankrupt. Yet. I am merely looking for a job as a way of getting out and spending time with adults, a nice little job that allows me to use my brain and socialize with people who don't know anything about Charlie & Lola or Thomas the Train.
Should be pretty easy to find a nice job, right?
Wrong. The two interviews that I had this week went fine. Great, in fact. One was to do Accounts Payable at a local timeshare resort. The other was to work for a few hours a week at the local library. Very, very part-time jobs. It wasn't like I was interviewing for Kofi Annan's job at the UN or something (if, in fact, people do interview for that job and it isn't an elected position...please, Hans, no lectures). No big deal. Except that both times, they sniffed me out for what I really am...
A Navy wife.
They aren't allowed to ask and I don't have to say, but both interviewers found a way around that roadblock. The first guy laughed and said "Well, I see on your interview that you've lived in San Diego and Newport...it's always either San Diego or Virginia and I know...you're not going to be wanting the health insurance". Ha. Ha. Ha. The library director said "So...you lived in Newport, then San Diego and now Newport again, hmmmm?".
Who wants to hire a military wife? We stay for a few months and then leave. I can't blame them, but it does make me a little disheartened. I recently read an article that said that military wives are a great resource that employers should be tapping. Most of us are well educated. Most of us worked in a professional capacity before we married into the military.
Dang. It's just not fair. I have looked for years for a job that I'd be able to do from home, with no success. Anyone have any ideas? Seriously.
Other than that, I just ask everyone to pray for us as we begin our drive (to insanity) to Minnesota this coming Thursday. We are charging the little DVD player and have bought the kids some new DVDs. We are packing peanut butter, bread and drinks of all kinds so we don't have to stop as much. We are bringing Futo, the goldfish, along with us. We're so excited for you to meet him! Anyway, pray that we make it and that we don't need family counseling by the time this is over...
See everyone reallll soon!

Here are wishes for a safe and amazingly happy, calm trip!
Are you worried the fish might get sea sick? ;o)
I'm also sorry about the frustation you are going through regarding a part-time job. I suppose the Navy base is not a desirable place to work ~ just a thought.
My prayers go with you as you cross the country with your precious cargo. See you soon!
Please feel free to drop me a line if you have the time when you get into town (if you have my cell #); if nothing else, we could possibly grab coffee!
Good luck on your long drive. I'm sure it will go well, you guys have had plenty of experience with road trips!
Maybe you should give up on the job idea and try something else...book club, bible study, learn jujitsu or yoga. ??
I have to keep this short as I have to answer Badgers latest blog also. On your trip home stop to let everyone get some space and exercise. Your Mom mentioned that she doesn't like the dogs in the house, so she is not too sure about the fish, although I am sure she wouldn't want it to freeze either. Have a safe and sane trip home and we will see you guys- wow- it is next week isn't it.
Love Dad
